Chapter 10

382 Words
Hugh Ceevanford was a man of principles. He was punctual, honest, hardworking, and a thriving Earl, and would wake up the moment the sunlight creased the horizon. But after the night at the ballroom, specifically the backside of the ballroom, with the tempting and yet enigmatic woman by his side, he felt his body sore and yet warm. The plush feel of her was far too soft to be felt, and her scent. Her scent....Good Heavens. Hugh woke up slowly, rubbing his eyes at first, then he heaved a sigh, and stretched.  Hugh took a bath, then got ready, and then plopped onto his divan, with the newspaper. But he couldn't read a word, because every time he attempted to do so, the mysterious lady's face washed before his eyes. Hugh straightened his posture and thought for a moment. Why was the lady running away from William Billfield? What could he have possibly done to her? Why was he chasing her? Hugh pressed his lips together in thought. William Billfield was a mere baronet, with only a younger sister to lose. He was always a mystery for Hugh and also for the rest of the London. William, was rather a jubilant man, until some rumor took place regarding the Billfield family, and then after that William had that stark look in the eye, that scared the wits out of a person. Hugh pursed his lips together, trying to gather some information about the rumor. Then he cursed himself, because back then when the rumor was fresh, he hadn't bothered to yield the information. Hugh was never interested in gossips. He loathed them.  "Lord Hugh" came the butler's voice as he knocked upon Hugh's ajar door "you have a visitor." Hugh snapped back to attention, "Um? Oh Oh. You proceed, I'll be there in a few minutes." The butler nodded and left. Hugh got up from his divan and looked in the mirror, then blinked. Who was the visitor? He had forgotten to ask. So lost was he in his own thoughts. Hugh readied himself, and left his room.  He walked down the staircase and entered his drawing room, where the visitor was seated. And when he entered the room, he knew in that instant, that his life was never going to be the same.
