Chapter Twenty-Three Adalia stood beside Isaac’s bed, tears wetting her cheeks. The crying wouldn’t stop, she sobbed and hiccupped intermittently. Her son’s heart rate monitor blipped steadily, the constant beep was a comfort and a horrible reminder of where they were. Why had this happened to her? Happened to them? Isaac waned in front of her eyes, a shadow of the baby she’d given birth to in that exact same hospital. And Trent was gone.
