PART 8 – AN ESCAPE NOT YET OVER

1223 Words
Dark. Silent. Cold. Nadine sat in the corner of the familiar room—the room of Adrian. Every inch of this place reminded her of the times when she once felt safe and happy, before everything crumbled. Now, her body ached and was bruised from the previous struggle, but her mind was still working, searching for a gap, plotting her escape. She knew escaping Adrian wouldn't be easy. The man had everything—money, power, influence, and even the patience to wait until Nadine finally gave up. But Nadine wouldn’t give up. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. The pain in her body seemed insignificant compared to her hope for freedom. The door was locked, the windows had security sensors, and every corner of this house was under surveillance. But no system is perfect. She only needed one gap—one mistake—to escape. Suddenly, a knock came at the door. "Nadine?" The familiar voice of Queen Dior. Nadine opened her eyes and looked up. When the door opened, Queen stood there with an unreadable expression—conflicted, full of regret, and fear. Nadine felt a wave of doubt. Since the incident, she didn’t know who to trust. Queen stepped in, then closed the door quietly behind her. "Adrian’s outside," she whispered softly. "I only have a few minutes." Nadine stared at her suspiciously. Was this a trap? Or did Queen truly feel remorse for what had happened? "What are you doing here?" Nadine asked, her voice cold, cautious. Queen swallowed nervously, clutching her fingers together. "I want to make up for my mistakes." Nadine stayed silent, waiting for more explanation. "I can’t let you stay trapped here," Queen continued, her voice trembling. "I’m going to help you escape." Nadine looked at her sharply, trying to find sincerity in her eyes. A difficult choice lay before her. Was this real? Was Queen really trying to help her? Or would this just pull her deeper into a bigger trap? "Please trust me, Nadine," Queen’s voice was quiet. "I don’t want to lose my best friend." Her heart raced, but she couldn’t shake the doubt that lingered in her mind. But out there, Adrian was waiting. What choice did she have? Trust and take the risk, or stay here and give in to Adrian? She took a deep breath, looked at Queen with hopeful eyes, and finally chose to believe. "What’s the plan?" she whispered. Queen exhaled slowly before answering. "We only have one shot." 2. THE ESCAPE PLAN That night, the air outside was cold and biting, as if nature itself was feeling the tension that hung in the air. Nadine stood in front of the wardrobe, donning dark clothes, just as Queen had advised. Every movement, every second felt so precious. If they failed, it would be the end. "When I go out, count to ten, then follow me into the hallway," Queen said, her voice soft but filled with determination. "I’ll cause a distraction." Nadine nodded, her heart pounding in her chest, barely able to contain her anxiety. Queen opened the door carefully and stepped out. Silence. One... Two... Three... Nadine held her breath, feeling the weight of each passing second. Her heart raced, almost uncontrollable. Outside, she heard Queen speaking with one of the guards. Four... Five... Six... Nadine squeezed her eyes shut, trying to calm herself, and listened to the sound of footsteps retreating. Seven... Eight... Nine... Ten. She stepped out of the room, moving cautiously. The hallway was dark, but Nadine had grown used to the darkness. Every step felt heavy but full of hope. Queen had successfully distracted the guard—this was the chance she had been waiting for. She walked quickly toward the back door, getting closer to freedom. Her hands shook as she tried to unlock the door. Every second felt like a test. But— Click. The door opened. However, just as she stepped outside— "Not so fast, Nadine." The cold voice froze her blood. She turned, her body trembling, and saw Adrian standing in the doorway with an expression of pure darkness. His desire to control, dominate, and destroy was clear in his eyes. "A-Adrian..." Nadine’s voice was barely audible. Her eyes locked with his, filled with fear, as her mind raced to find a way to escape. Adrian stepped forward, his eyes sharp as knives. "Wasn’t it clear enough?" His voice was low, filled with menace. Nadine took a step back, but before she could move further— A loud voice echoed in the air. "LET HER GO!" Lucas. From the darkness, Lucas appeared with several armed men. Adrian froze, his eyes flashing with uncontrollable rage. Tension filled the air, thickening with every second. Lucas moved forward, shielding Nadine behind him. "You’ve hurt her enough, Adrian. Let her go," Lucas said, his tone defiant. Every word was filled with a challenge that couldn’t be ignored. Adrian glared at Lucas with pure hatred, as though the world belonged to him and no one could take it from him. "She’s mine," he hissed. "Do you think I’ll let you take her?" Lucas clenched his fists, his eyes sharp and unwavering as he stared at Adrian. "She’s not yours, Adrian." A tense silence hung in the air, like a bomb waiting to go off. Nadine felt her heart racing in her chest. Everything was happening so fast, so unexpectedly. She could hardly breathe. Adrian smirked slightly, his eyes gleaming with threat. "Do you think I’ll just give up?" he asked, his voice dangerous. Lucas didn’t answer, but his gaze was sharp and resolute. In the silence, they faced each other, waiting for the first move. Then— "FIRE!" Lucas signaled, and in an instant, the sound of gunfire filled the air, shattering the tense stillness of the night. Nadine screamed and hid behind a car, feeling the tension turn into total chaos. Everything happened so fast, so violently. Adrian dodged the bullets with agility, then pulled a gun from beneath his jacket. The situation was growing even more dangerous. But before Adrian could shoot— Lucas charged at him. The two men fell to the ground, grappling in the darkness, their bodies tangled in a fight. Nadine could only watch, gasping for air, her heart pounding. Everything was a blur. Lucas tried to hold Adrian back, but Adrian’s strength was overwhelming. He punched Lucas mercilessly. Blood spilled from the corner of Lucas’s mouth, but he kept fighting. However, Adrian was too quick. In one swift motion, he pointed the gun at Lucas’s head. Nadine held her breath, her body stiff. "No..." she whispered to herself. Queen screamed, "DON’T, ADRIAN!" But Adrian didn’t care. His face remained cold, and he pressed the trigger— BANG! Lucas fell to the ground. "NOOO!" Nadine screamed, rushing toward Lucas, but Queen pulled her away forcefully, dragging her to safety. "WE HAVE TO GO!" Queen ordered, pushing Nadine into the car. With swift movements, Queen jumped into the driver’s seat and slammed the gas pedal. The car sped down the dark road, leaving Adrian standing behind. From the rearview mirror, Nadine saw Adrian standing in the middle of the road, his eyes filled with rage and obsession. He wasn’t going to let this end like this. And Nadine knew one thing for sure... This wasn’t over.
