The forest grew even darker as Zuri and Somadina moved forward.
But this time, the darkness didn’t swallow Zuri—it moved away from her, retreating from the golden pulse of her bracelet.
Still, an eerie feeling hung in the air. The trees towered overhead like ancient giants, their twisted roots crawling across the path like sleeping snakes. Strange glowing fungi lit the ground in patches, casting shifting blue shadows across the trail.
Somadina kept his spear raised, eyes scanning every shadow.
“Stay close,” he murmured.
“Something is watching us.”
Zuri nodded, though her heart felt steadier than before. The Guardian’s words still glowed inside her like a second heartbeat.
As they pushed through thick vines, the air shifted—growing warmer, humming with a different kind of energy.
“What is this place?” Zuri whispered.
Ahead, the forest opened into a wide clearing.
And there, rising from the earth like a forgotten monument, stood a massive stone structure covered in moss and glowing markings.
A temple.
But not just any temple.
It was built into the side of a huge tree—the oldest tree in the Forbidden Forest. Its trunk was wider than a house, its branches stretched so high they disappeared into the clouds. The temple’s entrance shimmered with faint sunlight, though there was no sun here.
Zuri stepped closer, breath catching.
“I’ve seen this place… in my dreams.”
Somadina looked at her sharply. “Dreams can be warnings. Or instructions.”
As they approached the entrance, the markings on the walls began to glow brighter—warm gold, just like Zuri’s bracelet.
When Zuri touched the stone…
Boom!
The door lit up and slowly slid open, releasing a warm breeze that felt alive.
“Only the Sun-Blessed can open this temple,” Somadina whispered in awe.
Inside, the walls were engraved with ancient carvings—images of past Sun-Blesseds, warriors of light, battles against shadow creatures, and one giant figure shrouded in darkness.
Zuri ran her fingers over the carvings.
“They knew this day would come…”
At the center of the chamber stood a stone pedestal.
Upon it was a glowing object—shaped like a small orb, swirling with golden mist.
The moment Zuri stepped closer, the orb responded, pulsing in rhythm with her bracelet.
Somadina tensed. “Careful…”
But a soft voice filled the room—not frightening, but ancient and gentle:
“Welcome, Child of Light.”
Zuri froze. “Who’s there?”
Light gathered above the pedestal, forming the shimmering outline of a woman with flowing hair and eyes like twin suns.
She was a spirit—one of the ancient Sun-Blesseds.
“Your journey has begun,” the spirit said. “But the shadows grow stronger. The King of Shadows has awakened. You must gain the power hidden in this temple.”
Zuri swallowed. “How do I do that?”
“By facing the truth within you.”
The walls trembled. A ring of light rose from the floor, surrounding Zuri.
Somadina tried to step inside—but the ring pushed him back.
“Zuri!” he shouted. “I’m here!”
She looked at him and smiled weakly. “I know.”
The spirit raised her hand.
The chamber filled with swirling mist.
Zuri’s heart pounded.
“You have power…” the spirit whispered,
“but you do not yet have mastery.”
Suddenly, the mist turned dark—forming a shadow version of Zuri. Same face. Same size. But with eyes glowing red like embers.
Zuri gasped. “That’s—me?”
“Yes,” the spirit said.
“Your fear. Your doubt. Your weakness.”
The shadow Zuri hissed and lunged.
Zuri raised her hand—her real hand trembling.
The bracelet flickered weakly.
“Believe!” Somadina shouted from outside the ring. “Zuri, you’re stronger than your fear!”
The shadow attacked again—fast, vicious, relentless.
Zuri stumbled backward, falling to the ground.
Her bracelet dimmed.
“Stand!” the spirit commanded. “Light does not bow to darkness!”
Zuri shut her eyes.
I am afraid.
But I’m moving forward anyway.
Fear… can follow behind me.
A warmth flickered in her chest.
Bright. Fierce. Growing.
Her bracelet ignited with golden fire.
Zuri stood and thrust her hand forward.
“Enough!”
A burst of light exploded from her palm—pure, brilliant, unstoppable.
The shadow Zuri let out a shriek as it shattered into glittering dust.
Silence fell.
Zuri stood trembling, breathing hard—but victorious.
The spirit smiled.
“You have passed the first trial.”
Light swirled around the pedestal. The golden orb lifted into the air and shot toward Zuri, merging with her bracelet.
A wave of power surged through her—strong enough to shake the temple.
Somadina rushed to her as the ring dissolved. “Zuri! Are you okay?”
She nodded slowly.
“I’m stronger now. I can feel it.”
The spirit’s voice echoed as she faded away:
“But greater trials await.
The King of Shadows knows you are coming.”
The temple trembled.
The forest howled.
And the path ahead grew darker.
But Zuri—the Sun-Blessed—no longer felt alone.
Or afraid.
She and Somadina stepped out of the temple, ready for whatever waited in the shadows.
