Leaving the ancient temple behind, Zuri and Somadina walked deeper into the heart of the Forbidden Forest. The air around them felt heavier now, not with danger—but with expectation. The trees whispered, the ground pulsed, and the wind carried the faint sound of distant chanting.
Zuri felt the newly absorbed power swirling inside her bracelet. It was stronger now—warmer, brighter, more alive. But with that strength came a new kind of fear.
“What if there are more tests?” she whispered.
Somadina tightened his grip on his spear. “There will be. The spirits said this forest will test your courage. But I’m not leaving your side.”
Zuri smiled softly. His presence was more comforting than any magic.
They continued until the path split into three twisting trails, each one disappearing into darkness.
Zuri slowed. Her bracelet pulsed—
once, twice, three times.
Then the golden light dimmed.
Somadina frowned. “Which way?”
Before Zuri could answer, a glowing figure materialized in front of them—a faint outline of the same Sun-Blessed spirit from the temple.
Her voice echoed through the forest:
“To master your light, you must complete the Three Trials of Courage.”
She raised her hand.
The three paths lit with faint glowing symbols.
Trial One: Fear of the Past
Trial Two: Fear of the Present
Trial Three: Fear of the Future
Zuri’s breath hitched.
Three fears.
Three battles.
Three truths she could not run from.
The spirit’s voice softened.
“Walk with courage, Child of Light. Only then will your power be complete.”
Then the spirit vanished.
Zuri looked at Somadina.
He nodded once.
“I go where you go.”
She stepped toward the first path.

THE FIRST TRIAL — FEAR OF THE PAST
The moment Zuri entered, the forest changed.
The air grew thick.
The trees grew smaller.
And suddenly… she stood in her village.
Her home.
Her parents’ hut.
Children playing.
Mothers cooking.
Everything was peaceful… until the sky darkened.
Shadow creatures appeared, tearing through huts, chasing villagers, roaring as they approached a small girl.
Zuri.
Her younger self.
“No…” Zuri whispered. “This is when I first saw the shadow beast…”
She remembered this fear—the day she hid under a basket while warriors fought to protect the village. She remembered crying, helpless.
Now, her younger self trembled as a massive shadow creature towered over her.
Zuri stepped forward.
“Not this time.”
The shadow lunged.
Zuri raised her hand and unleashed a beam of golden light that shook the air. The creature shrieked and disintegrated into smoke.
The younger Zuri stared in awe—then slowly vanished into light.
Somadina rushed beside her. “You did it.”
Zuri wiped her tears.
“I faced my past. And I wasn’t afraid this time.”
The forest shimmered… and the path opened for the second trial.
---
THE SECOND TRIAL — FEAR OF THE PRESENT
This path was colder.
Quieter.
Darker.
Zuri stepped into a clearing—and froze.
Somadina… lay on the ground.
Unmoving.
Pale.
His spear shattered beside him.
“NO!” Zuri screamed and ran to him.
His eyes were closed. His chest didn’t rise.
She shook him desperately.
Somadina… her friend… her protector…
“Please… get up,” she whispered, tears falling.
A voice slithered from the shadows.
“You cannot save everyone.”
Shadow creatures circled her.
Dozens of them.
Hissing, laughing, eyes glowing red.
Zuri’s bracelet flickered.
It sensed her fear.
Her pain.
The shadow voice spoke again:
“You are too weak to protect him.”
Zuri clenched her fist. “I am NOT weak!”
The shadows lunged.
Zuri rose to her feet.
With a scream of pure determination, she unleashed a golden explosion so bright the forest shook. The ground cracked. The shadows evaporated instantly.
When the light faded, Somadina’s body shimmered—and slowly disappeared.
It had been an illusion. A test.
Zuri fell to her knees, breath shaking.
“That was cruel…”
Somadina, very real and very alive, ran to her from outside the trial barrier.
“Zuri! I could hear you! Are you okay?”
She threw her arms around him, crying into his shoulder.
“I thought I lost you.”
“You won’t,” he whispered. “Not now. Not ever.”
Her bracelet glowed warmly and the path to the Final Trial opened.

THE THIRD TRIAL — FEAR OF THE FUTURE
This path was the darkest of all.
Fog twisted like spirits.
The sky overhead cracked with lightning.
And at the center of a broken field stood a massive throne of black stone.
On it sat a silhouette—tall, armored, with eyes glowing like burning coals.
The King of Shadows.
He raised a hand, and the entire forest trembled.
“So… the Sun-Blessed comes to face her destiny.”
Zuri swallowed hard.
Her hands shook.
Her heart raced.
This was her deepest fear:
The moment she would finally confront the ancient darkness.
The shadow king stepped forward.
“You are just a child. You cannot save Amazu. You cannot save your people.”
Zuri lifted her bracelet.
“I may be young… but I am not alone.”
The shadow king raised his hand and hurled a spear of darkness.
Zuri closed her eyes—
heard the Guardian’s words—
“Courage is walking forward while fear follows behind.”
She stepped forward and swung her arm.
A shield of golden light erupted from her bracelet.
The spear shattered against it like glass.
Zuri opened her eyes—glowing bright as the sun.
The shadow king hissed and vanished into smoke.
A voice echoed from the heavens:
“You have passed the Trials of Courage.”
The forest brightened.
Golden light rained down on Zuri.
Her bracelet pulsed—
once… twice…
before transforming into a new, more powerful form.
Somadina stepped forward.
“You did it… Zuri.”
She breathed out, exhausted but glowing.
“I’m ready for whatever comes next.”
