THE FORGOTTEN STORY The official story called him the Hunter. Long ago, two inseparable friends had stood together against a supernatural threat. One became obsessed with forbidden strength. He wanted enough power to prevent anyone he loved from ever being taken from him. He failed. Grief changed him. Fear became anger. Anger became obsession. Eventually, he hurt the very people he had sworn to protect. His closest friend stopped him and sealed the darkness within him. That was the story the Four Families remembered. But Airi noticed something missing. No name. No family. No explanation for the fourth figure in their dreams. Ren found another record. The Hunter had once had a child. The page ended there. Airi looked at him. “Why would they hide that?” “Because grief makes people do things they don't want remembered.” A cold wind moved through the archive. A voice answered from somewhere behind them. “Or because the truth makes heroes look less heroic.” They turned. No one was there. On the floor lay an old photograph. Four figures stood beneath the moon. Three faces had been scratched away. The fourth had been cut from the photograph entirely…
