The only person willing to explain the old records was a Spirit Seer
named Miyako.
She lived quietly outside the city and had spent years studying spiritual
disturbances.
When Airi showed her the moon symbol, Miyako became silent.
“Where did you get this?”
“It appeared.”
Miyako studied her hand.
“Then something has noticed you.”
Ren asked about Lim.
Miyako answered carefully.
“Lim is not a creature in the ordinary sense. It is a presence. It survives
through what people remember.”
“So it can't be killed?”
“Not in the way you mean.”
“What can stop it?”
“A seal. Separation. Strengthening the boundary. Sometimes driving it
away.”
Airi remembered the sentence about the Guardian.
“Can the Guardian remember a previous life?”
“Not always.”
“Then how do we find them?”
Miyako smiled sadly.
“You may not find them by name.”
Airi frowned.
“Then by what?”
“By recognition.”
That night, Miyako gave them a small bell.
“If it rings without wind, do not follow the sound.”
Ren raised an eyebrow.
“Why?”
Miyako's expression hardened.
“Because something else may be following you.”
The bell rang.
There was no wind
