Airi began investigating her own family. The more she found, the less she trusted what she had been taught. A sealed record described the Guardian as someone connected to the Takamori bloodline, but the page had been altered. Someone had written Airi's name in the margin. She stared at it. “I never saw this before.” Ren leaned closer. The ink was old. Older than Airi. Then another line appeared beneath it: NOT THE FIRST LIFE. Airi stepped back. Ren caught her arm. The page changed again. NOT THE LAST. For the first time, Airi wondered whether her strange dreams were not dreams at all. Perhaps they were memories. Or perhaps they belonged to someone who had lived before her. At home, Akari found her in the archive. “You need to stop.” “Why?” “Because I know what happens when people dig too deeply.” Airi's voice softened. “Then tell me.” Akari looked at her sister for a long moment. “I don't know everything.” That was the first time Airi realized Akari was afraid too. Outside, thunder rolled across the city. On the archive door, a new symbol appeared. Four lines around a moon. One line was broken.
