For one morning, everything seemed normal.
There was a test.
Students complained about difficult questions.
Teachers walked between desks.
Someone dropped a pen.
Airi almost laughed at how ordinary it felt.
Then the floor beneath the classroom vibrated.
Ren looked up.
“You felt that.”
Airi nodded.
Spiritual energy was moving beneath the school.
During the final question, every student's paper displayed the same
sentence:
THE GUARDIAN IS AWAKE.
Then the words disappeared.
The teacher saw nothing.
Airi looked at Ren.
The ordinary day had become another warning.
After school, they returned to the basement.
A hidden stairway had appeared.
At the bottom stood an ancient stone door.
Four symbols surrounded it.
The moon.
The broken line.
A hand.
And an empty circle.
Ren whispered:
“What is the empty circle?”
Airi touched it.
The door opened.
THE CHOICE
Inside the chamber, the air was cold.
Airi and Ren stood beneath an ancient mural.
The mural showed the Hunter, his closest friend, the Fourth, and another
figure.
The truth was bigger than the story.
Ren looked at Airi.
“I don't want to know who we were.”
She understood.
“Why?”
“Because I want to know who we are.”
Airi smiled.
That was when they finally admitted what they felt.
No grand declaration.
No audience.
Only two people beneath an ancient moon choosing each other.
They agreed to keep their relationship private.
Not because they were ashamed.
Because the mystery already belonged to too many people.
This part belonged to them.
When they left the chamber, Airi wrote one sentence in her notebook:
We choose this life.
Behind them, the mural changed.
A fourth face appeared.
Then vanished.
