Chapter 6: The Day of the Promise

1291 Words
The air had started to hold a hint of winter in Paris. November 29th wasn’t just another day for Gia anymore—it was their day now. She had barely slept the night before. Her fingers had stayed busy scrolling through outfit options, heart fluttering with anticipation. The last time they were at Eden Café, everything felt so new, so uncertain. But now… there was warmth, comfort, and a secret excitement lingering between them. At 3 PM, they met outside the small thrift store in the city. Noah, as always, looked effortlessly perfect—sleeves rolled up, beanie slightly tilted, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. Gia wore a brown sweater with a pleated skirt and boots, her hair tied in a loose ponytail. “Someone’s been trying too hard to look cute,” he teased, eyeing her playfully. Gia rolled her eyes. “Shut up. I look cute without trying.” “You do,” he whispered, leaning in. She turned slightly, flustered. They wandered from shop to shop, holding hands when no one was watching. Noah picked out a dainty silver chain for her, while Gia helped him choose a new hoodie—something offbeat, forest green. They were that kind of couple now: the kind that chose things for each other. By 6 PM, they were back at same cafe. Same corner booth. Same warm fairy lights hanging above. Gia noticed the small gift-wrapped box on the table. Her eyes widened. “What’s this?” Noah scratched the back of his neck. “Open it.” She unwrapped it slowly, heart thumping. Inside, nestled in velvet, was a delicate promise ring—silver, with a tiny crescent moon etched beside a miniature diamond. Tears welled up in her eyes instantly. “Noah…” her voice cracked. “I know I’m a mess,” he said softly. “But I’m yours. I promise I won’t walk away this time. No matter what.” She bit her lip, blinking fast, overwhelmed. “I don’t need this ring to believe you,” she whispered. “But I needed it to make a promise,” he said. She reached across the table, lacing her fingers with his. “This is the most beautiful thing anyone’s ever done for me.” They didn’t talk much for the next few minutes. Words weren’t enough. He placed the ring gently on her finger, then kissed the back of her hand. After some time, they ordered coffee and pastries, and as the evening turned into night, Gia pulled out her phone. “Wanna watch a movie?” she asked, smiling shyly. “With you? Always.” She opened Netflix, scrolling. “Noah…” she smirked. “Don’t judge me, but I’m in the mood for something cheesy.” He laughed. “I wouldn’t expect anything less.” They settled on “It Ends With Us.” With one earphone each plugged in, they leaned closer, heads brushing lightly, knees touching. As the movie played, their fingers remained intertwined. Every laugh they shared, every stolen glance between the characters on-screen, seemed to mirror the ones between them. Halfway through the movie, Gia felt Noah’s thumb gently brushing her wrist, tracing circles. Her heart skipped. She looked at him—he was watching her, not the movie. “Noah…” “Hmm?” “You’re not even watching.” “Because I’m distracted.” She blushed. “Stop.” “I can’t. You’re too close.” His voice was low now, husky. She swallowed hard as he leaned in. His hand moved to her waist, pulling her slightly toward him. Their lips brushed for a moment—just a tease—before he kissed her gently. Her body tensed. The café was dim, quiet, but not empty. “Noah, someone might see—” she whispered nervously. He looked around. “We’re hidden. Look. No one’s even looking this way.” Still, her nerves were winning over her desire. He could feel it. So he softened. “Hey,” he whispered, cupping her face. “We don’t have to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. Okay?” She nodded slowly, but something shifted in her eyes. Trust. Surrender. “No, I want to. Just… be gentle.” He smiled. “Always.” Slowly, he pulled her into his lap, guiding her so she was facing him, straddling his legs. Her skirt fanned slightly, and she instinctively tugged it down. Her hands rested on his chest, her breath trembling. “You’re beautiful,” he whispered, sliding his hand to her back. “And you smell like strawberries.” Gia let out a soft laugh, cheeks burning. Then he kissed her again—deeper this time. His lips claimed hers with a kind of hunger she’d never experienced before. He kissed her slowly but with passion, hands roaming her waist, holding her close like she was something fragile but precious. As his fingers lightly ran down her spine, she gasped softly. “Noah…” “I’ve waited so long to hold you like this,” he murmured against her lips. “You’re making it hard to breathe,” she whispered. “Then let me take your breath away properly.” Their kisses grew more heated. She could feel her core warming, his body firm against hers. Her thighs tightened around him, the tension unbearable. She wanted more, but also wanted to stop time, to remember everything. A soft buzz broke the moment. Her phone vibrated between them. They froze. Gia quickly slid off his lap, laughing breathlessly, fixing her hair. “That was intense,” she said, trying to catch her breath. “You’re telling me?” Noah laughed, adjusting his jacket. “I might need cold water.” They both burst out laughing, their nervousness melting into something warm and playful. They left the café around 9 PM, walking quietly, hands locked tight. ⸻ Later that night… Back home, Gia couldn’t sleep. She stared at the promise ring on her finger, still feeling his touch on her skin. Her phone buzzed. Noah 🐺: You up? Gia 💫: Couldn’t sleep. Too many butterflies. You? Noah 🐺: Same. All I can think about is your lips. And how soft you looked on my lap 😵‍💫 Gia 💫: 🙈 Stop. You’re making me blush again. Noah 🐺: I want to make you do more than blush. Like moan my name. Gia 💫: Noah… 😳 You’re being shameless tonight. Noah 🐺: I’m being honest. You were so nervous, but so hot. I loved every second of it. Your hands on my chest… damn Gia. Gia 💫: You make me feel things I’ve never felt. Like I’m burning inside but don’t want it to stop. Noah 🐺: That’s desire, babe. And trust me, I wanted to take you right there. But I also wanted you to feel safe. Because you matter more than anything. Gia 💫: I’ve never wanted someone like this before. Not just your touch. Your voice. Your words. Your promises. Noah 🐺: You’ll have all of it. And one day, it won’t be just a promise ring. It’ll be forever. Her eyes welled up again. She typed slowly. Gia 💫: You make it hard not to fall deeper every day. Noah 🐺: Then fall. I’ll catch you. Again. And again. And again. ⸻ They stayed up texting till 3 AM—laughing, teasing, talking about everything. Gia told him how she almost ran out of the café from nervousness. He confessed he’d been carrying the ring for two weeks, too scared she’d say it was too soon. They both admitted one thing: that they were slowly falling into something that felt like forever. And neither wanted to stop.
