Chapter 2:(Two years ago 2) ~DAMIEN~ "There you are" my grandfather Gerard Shawn says as he joined me out on the balcony facing the lake. He had been my mentor ever since I was eleven when I came to live with him nine years back, but now he seems like a total stranger to me. "Are you not speaking to me as well?" he asked me scrutinizing me with his eyes. "Are you also involved in this?" I asked him not minding his question. "Do you mean to say I should leave all my achievement here and go take over some damn company I have no idea how to operate" I said venting all my anger on him. He smiles"you going back wasn't my idea son, it was your parents', but I had nothing against it. I know you won't agree with us,but Damien it's for the best of the family. Besides your father just want you to come back and learn the ropes of the business before you take over in few years time. You know about his health state. And besides he is supposed to introduce you to his business partners also " he tried explaining. "You say it like you know more to this than what you're telling me" I note. "He shrugs his shoulder" well my son, the final decision is up to you,you decide whether to go or not. I'm telling you this because I believe in your ability. "Why should I be the one to make this sacrifice?" I ask. "Because you're the eldest"He says. As the eldest, have also had to make many sacrifices for my siblings while growing up also. You have been a good child your entire life, listening to your parents, listening to your grandma and I. If she were still alive, she would tell you the same thing that I was. My grandmother, Annika Shawn died two years ago. Her death had hit our family hard. We were all still trying to cope with the loss. Some may argue that two years was enough time to stop grieving, but it wasn't for us. She was an angel. She did everything for us. " Do you think she would have wanted me back home?"I ask him. I always respected her opinion. I so much wished she were still alive to answer this question herself. But death was a cheater who respected no one. He nods"your grandmother would have, am undoubtedly sure of that" My jaw clenched. His words have gotten to me. It hit me so hard. "What are you trying to tell me?" I ask him. "You know exactly what I am saying". You would be fulfilling your grandmother's and father's wishes, if you decide to take over the company. I stand there, looking at the lake, with his word in my mind.I glanced at him, and I know that he realises he had cornered me. He had said the right word.It was time for me to go back home, where I had belonged. Fulfilling any wishes my grandma may have had for me will always be on my to-do list, and this one wasn't gonna be an exception. I had resolved my mind and there was no turning back, even if it meant destroying my happiness. I stormed back inside with one thing in mind. I wasn't doing this for my father I was doing it for my dear grandmother instead whom I know would be proud of my decision. I picked up my mobile phone and dialed the nearest airport, booking a ticket heading for Chicago. It was finally time to go back home after all this long awaited years.
