VERA POV "Where is she?" I said, struggling to contain my anger. "Nice to see you too," he replied, seemingly unfazed by the sight of my gun pointed at him. "Where the hell is Melina Silas?" I yelled, storming into the room with the gun still aimed at him. "Don't worry, she's safe," he said calmly, walking over to a table and taking a seat in a chair. "If you've harmed her, I swear to God—" I began, but he cut me off. "Do you really think I would hurt my own daughter?" he asked, his voice steady but tinged with anger. I was shocked, but I kept my expression blank. "Have you thought that I wouldn't have found out?" he continued, now standing and walking toward me. "I won't hesitate to shoot you, Silas," I warned, but before I could react, he disarmed me and flung the gun across the room. He pressed me against the nearest wall, his hands trapping me in place. As we locked eyes, he drew close, our lips nearly touching. "I missed you, Amore," he said, then leaned in for a slow kiss. I pushed him away and slapped him, leaving him taken aback. "Don't you ever do that again," I said firmly, and he just chuckled. "You really are something, Vera," he said, "What do you want, Silas? Why suddenly give a s**t? You can have any woman you want, someone you can f**k and have a child with," I said, trying to maintain my composure. "I will make a deal. You and Melina stay in Italy so she can know her family and you become my wife," he proposed. "Go to hell," I screamed. "Agree to it, or I will take full custody and ensure you never see her again," he threatened, my grip on my knuckles tightened and turning them white. Even if I kill him, it will only be a matter of time before they harm Melina. I couldn't bear to lose the one thing that kept me sane. I felt trapped. I had no choice. "I accept your deal," I said, defeated. As I uttered those words, a heavy sense of resignation settled over me. I felt the weight of my decision pressing down, suffocating me with its implications. Silas's smug grin revealed his satisfaction, knowing he had me cornered. "Excellent choice, amore," he said, his tone dripping with triumph. I could hardly stand to look at him, but I forced myself to maintain eye contact. Deep down, I knew this was the only way to protect Melina. I had to endure whatever was to come for her sake. I turned away, unable to bear another moment in his presence. The bitter taste of defeat lingered on my tongue, but as I thought of Melina's safety, a flicker of determination ignited within me. I would endure this year in Italy, I vowed to myself, but I would also find a way to outmaneuver Silas and secure our freedom. No matter what it took, I would shield Melina from the clutches of this manipulative man, and we would emerge from this ordeal stronger than ever. The front door had swung open, and there she was. "Mommy!" she cried, running into my arms and squeezing me tightly as tears streamed down her cheeks. "I thought I lost you," she sobbed. "You can never lose me," I reassured her, holding her close, but my eyes remained fixed on Silas, who observed the emotional scene with an inscrutable expression. "Mommy, who is that?" Melina asked, pointing towards Silas. fuck... "He is your father," I said, and Melina's eyes widened in disbelief. I gently set her down, and we approached Silas together. As he knelt down to meet her, she instinctively moved behind me, her small frame trembling with uncertainty. "It's okay," I whispered, and she tentatively stepped forward, reaching out to touch Silas's face, as if trying to grasp a memory. "Hello, Melina," Silas spoke softly. Then, something shifted within her, and she removed her hands from his face. "Daddy," she cried, throwing her arms around him, seeking comfort in his embrace. As I watched Melina embrace Silas with a mixture of trepidation and longing, a surge of conflicting emotions washed over me. Silas held Melina close, his gaze softening as he enveloped her in a protective embrace. In that moment, a fragile bond began to form between father and daughter, bridging the chasm of absence and uncertainty that had defined their relationship for so long. I stood there, a silent witness to this poignant scene, grappling with the complexities of the past and the uncertainties of the future. The weight of my responsibility as a mother and protector weighed heavily on me, a fierce determination rising within me to shield Melina from the shadows of our tumultuous history. Silas's eyes met mine, a silent acknowledgment passing between us, laden with unspoken truths and the echoes of a shared past that still held sway over our lives. In that charged moment, a silent understanding passed between us, a recognition of the complexities that defined our relationship and the challenges that lay ahead.
