‘’We’ve been here for hours, Alex.’’ Scott said to his friend. He looked around, holding a glass of wine in his hand as he sat.
The club was bustling with energy. The place was lighted up at every corner. The place was huge and filled with numerous people who chatted, and some who were already tipsy.
Scott observed the way which the place had been decorated and he couldn’t deny it had been done by someone of class. He always had an eye for people like that. Unlike most of the other parties Scott attended, this one was far better and that was why he decided to still stay behind.
He noticed most of the ladies around eyed him, most of them whispered to each other while looking in his direction. People occupied the middle of the room, dancing slowly to the music playing. Scott was the only person who wasn’t in a conversation with someone. He had his bodyguard with him, so no one could talk to him.
The place was filled with elegant people. People from the high class. The rich. The wealthy. The elites of the city. Scott had received an invitation to attend the party a long, long time ago, and chose to ignore it, but it was Alex who had forced him to attend. He began to appreciate the fact that Alex actually dragged him there.
‘’Another glass, sir.’’ A waiter who had stopped right in front of him, said while holding a bottle of Martini in his silver tray. He had a neutral look on his face while waiting for Scott to answer him. When Scott realized he was talking to him, he began to speak.
‘’Oh, yes. Thank you.’’
‘’Hm.’’ The waiter replied and began to pour its content into Scott’s glass. Swirling and sniffing it, he gave the waiter a slight nod and he briskly walked off, attending to other people as well.
Scott’s dad was still in the hospital. He had no idea what was going on with him in there. He began to feel bad for talking to his mother that way in front of everyone in his father’s ward and began to think about going back to her to apologize. It was only right, he thought.
‘’Enjoying the party?’’ Alex asked, walking back to him after leaving the lady he had just finished talking to. Scott tilted his head slightly showing approval.
‘’Hm. It’s not that bad.’’ He said, looking away from Alex.
Alex instantly became frustrated. ‘’It’s not that bad? What do you really want from me?’’
‘’Chill. I just said it wasn’t that bad. I think I’m beginning to like it.’’ Scott replied him calmly. Alex then took a seat beside him. He didn’t take his eyes off him and it made him confused.
‘’What?’’ Scott asked, raising a brow.
‘’You should find yourself someone to talk to.’’ Alex spoke out. It was true, but Scott didn’t want to agree to it. He preferred being a lone wolf. It saved him from a whole lot of stress. He didn’t want it to stop being that way.
‘’Why? I would prefer to remain like this till we leave.’’ He replied, making Alex give out a short sigh.
‘’Scott.’’
‘’You were just talking to someone before you came to me. You should go back to her. She must be waiting for you right now.’’ He quickly changed the topic.
‘’Yeah…she’ll be alright. We’re talking about you now.’’
‘’What about me?’’
‘’Have you been on the news? Something just happened.’’ Alex diverted and Scott felt relieved.
‘’Talk to me.’’
‘’Concerning your father and the whole stripper issue.’’
‘’Oh.’’ Scott muttered. ‘’What did you hear?’’
‘’One of the strippers, got caught by the police earlier today!’’ Alex exclaimed, expecting Scott to be surprised as well but his expression remained the same.
Unbothered.
Unmoved.
‘’And what am I to do with such information? Haven’t I made it clear to you that I do not want to know more about anything concerning my father and those girls? Why do you keep on bringing them up?’’ He looked at Alex.
‘’You know you can’t keep running away from this…’’
‘’Hm I think I can.’’
‘’What I’m just trying to say is, you have to be interested in all of this. He is your father. If it weren’t for him, you wouldn’t be here.’’
‘’I strongly believe I would be where I am today even without having him.’’
‘’Scott…’’
‘’It’s the honest truth.’’
‘’Have you gone to check on him yet? What’s going on with him at the hospital?’’ Alex inquired.
‘’I really don’t know what’s going on with him. I haven’t gone to the hospital. I don’t think I need to do so.’’
‘’This nonchalant attitude of yours isn’t going to get you anywhere, Scott.’’
‘’Oh it has been. It has been all right.’’ Scott smirked and Alex rubbed his temples.
‘’You know there is something else to be addressed.’’ Alex began to speak once again. What was it this time that needed to be addressed? Scott was already getting tired of the conversation. He didn’t like the fact that it was about something he didn’t want to talk about.
‘’Which is?’’
‘’Your father’s business. Your family’s business.’’
‘’Alex…’’
‘’Chill out. Just wanted to remind you.’’
‘’Thanks for the reminder.’’ Scott looked elsewhere. They both suddenly became quiet.
‘’It was great having this conversation with you. If you need me, I’d be talking to my lady.’’ Alex stood up and with that, he left the table and went back to what he was doing before coming to Scott- talking to his date.
Calling another waiter, Scott refilled his glass and continued to drink from it slowly, while watching the party.
************
‘’Open…the d-door…’’ Nessa stuttered, struggling to keep herself from falling to the ground. She had been drinking.
After leaving Scott’s office in anger, she drove to the closest bar to drink herself to stupor. She still couldn’t believe why Scott didn’t want her.
The whole thing that happened with him back in his office replayed in her mind at the bar, and that was what pushed her to drink more than 8 shots of vodka and gin.
Although being warned by some of the men who approached her, she refused to stop and even ordered an extra shot of Tequila to push it all down. All because of one person.
Scott Anderson.
The only man she had ever loved.
‘’L-let…me…in…’’ She continued to groan as she banged on the door with her heels which she had already pulled off. Almost immediately, someone opened up for her. Completely terrified by the sight of a far gone Nessa, Ruby’s eyes widened.
‘’Nessa!!!’’ Ruby, Tessa’s sister screamed.
‘’What the hell happened to you!!???’’ She yelled at the top of her voice, still stunned that her sister was that drunk on their doorstep.
‘’Ruby…’’ Nessa muttered as Ruby began to pull her gently into the house with her shoes and bag in her hands.
‘’MOM!!!’’
‘’MOM!!!’’ Ruby called out.
‘’What the hell…’’ Ruby still couldn’t believe her eyes.
‘’What is going on down there?’’ Their mom said as she walked down the stairs.
‘’Nessa?’’ She stared in disbelief.
Rushing down, she ran to meet her daughter who was on the verge of passing out.
‘’Get her to the bathroom!’’ Their mother, Selena yelled.
Carrying Nessa up, the both of them walked huskily to the nearest bathroom. When they got in, they brought Nessa close to the toilet, so she could vomit because it looked like she wanted to.
They stared at her, dumbfounded. They had no idea their daughter had been, but they definitely knew what she had been doing.
As Nessa puked into the toilet, Ruby tied her hair up and then left her to continue. Selena never imagined that her daughter would be the one doing what she was doing. She just couldn’t believe it.
What had caused her to start drinking?
They had no idea.
Even if she wanted to drink, wouldn’t just two bottles be enough for her?
They knew she had taken way more than two bottles. Raising her head up slightly, Nessa cried silently and they noticed.
‘’Nessa…’’ Selena said as she walked over to meet her.
‘’Why doesn’t he love me?’’ She whispered, tears streaming down her face. The two became confused. They had no clue what Nessa was saying.Ruby crouched down.
‘’Nessa…what are you talking about?’’
‘’Why doesn’t he love me? A-am I not good enough…for him? W-what don’t I have?’’ She continued to speak as her voice became less and less inaudible. It finally reached the point where they didn’t even know if she was still speaking or not.
After a few seconds, her eyes closed.
‘’Mom…she’s out.’’ Ruby turned to her mother.
‘’Let’s get her to her bedroom.’’ Selena replied. They both carried her up once again, but now to her bedroom. It only took a few steps to get there. Ruby kicked the door open and Selena went in with her other side.
They got to her bed and laid her down gently on her stomach, and also grabbed a bucket to put by the bedside incase she wanted to vomit some more.
Once everything had been done, they watched Nessa for a while, before finally leaving her bedroom.
