The airport was filled up. Aleya and Lexi walked and walked, trying to find out where their attendant was.
At the end, they finally found her, with the help of the security guards walking around. They pulled their bags with them, constantly checking their phones to make sure they weren’t too late to board the plane.
There was a long line waiting for them, so they used the opportunity to sit and wait until it was their turn to come forward. They were both extremely tired and hungry, and hoped they would be able to get on the plane as soon as possible.
Keeping her phone on her thigh, Lexi breathed out. ‘’I need to get something to eat right now.’’ She said, looking forward. Unfortunately, she couldn’t see some places where she could get some snacks.
‘’Just wait a little bit longer. We wold get snacks on the plane.’’ Aleya assured her and looked away from her. So many thoughts ran through Lexi’s mind.
Was she already caught?
Were they just behind her?
Were the girls safe?
Most importantly, was her mother okay?
Her mother Tessa was the one she cared about the most. She wondered how she would be able to cope now that she would be leaving the city. It all happened too soon. Just when she thought she would be living her best life, something comes up and threatens her existence completely.
On the day of the strip show, she promised herself never to go back there. That day she got the money, was her last day there, but no else knew except Aleya. She had already planned to stop working at the strip club. She had already planned to find herself a better job. But everything was crumbling down right in her presence.
Would it ever end?
Would she ever be able to calm down without the thought of her being chased down coming back into her mind?
‘’Lexi? Are you good?’’ Aleya asked, snapping her out of her thoughts. Lexi shook her head slightly and looked at her.
‘’I’m fine…you don’t need to worry about me.’’ She smiled slightly.
‘’I should. I have to. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be here. So please, stay with me.’’ Lexi held her hands.
‘’Of course.’’ Lexi said once more, and Aleya rested her head on her shoulders. They watched as the people moved, hoping their turn would come quickly. After a whole 20 minutes of waiting, an attendant walked into the waiting area.
‘’23A?’’ The lady called. Quickly, Aleya stood up leaving Lexi confused.
‘’That’s us. Let’s go.’’ She said to Lexi while picking up some of their stuff.
‘’When did you get that tag?’’ Lexi referred to the paper her roommate held.Lexi chuckled slightly.
‘’When you were lost in thoughts.’’
After rolling her eyes, Lexi stood up as well and they both strode to where they were being called.
‘’Welcome! Thank you for choosing to fly with us. The flight to Miami would cost 600 dollars. The fee for flying at night costs way more, as the pilots and hostesses have to be up throughout the night, making sure the flight is comfortable for everyone. I hope you understand.’’ The lady said, all smiles.
‘’Of course, we understand.’’ Aleya smiled as well.
‘’We would like your mode of payment now.’’ Aleya reached down into the bag in her hands and pulled out her credit card. Once she got it, she handed it to the lady.
‘’All right then…’’ Speaking quietly, she put the card in. It only took a few seconds for it to be done.
She then handed it back to them. ‘’Thank you once again!’’
After they were done with the payment for the flight, they walked through the turnstile gate and met another person who would be attending to them. They were instructed to drop their bags so it would get checked and they were led to where they would be checked as well. It took about 30 minutes for everything to be finished.
The bags were at another side, so they went over to get them. When they finally did so, other passengers were called forward so they would speed up the process.
Without needing any more directions, Lexi and Aleya walked to the plane. They could barely see anything. The only lights they could set their eyes on were the ones inside the plane. Outside was pitch black.
‘’Welcome aboard.’’ Said the air hostess who was standing by the plane. Nodding, they both walked in.
Everyone was just getting seated.
Aleya walked in further with Lexi moving behind her.
‘’Where’s our row?’’ Lexi asked Aleya. She was the one who had been taking care of everything they did in the airport, so she expected her to know where they would be seated.
‘’23A.’’ Aleya replied her. They had been assigned the same seat they were given back inside the airport’s waiting area. Once settled down on the window seat, Lexi breathed in. Aleya got seated as well.
After some time, the rest of the passengers began to enter the plane. They all took their seats without any hassle, with the help of the two airhostesses walking to and fro inside the plane.
‘’Please get seated…thank you…enjoy your flight.’’ One hostess said as she walked past the seated passengers. The minute the last person had entered, the entrances and exits closed slowly.
‘’We are about to take off. Please ensure you are all strapped in to avoid being too affected by the turbulence’’. A voice could be heard from the speakers just before the pilot’s cabin.
At the same time, all the passengers began to strap themselves in. Once everyone was done, they all became quiet.
‘’And we’re off’’. The air hostess finished. Just then, the plane suddenly shuddered in a pocket of turbulence.
Breathing steadily, Lexi shut her eyes gently. For several moments the plane bounced, up and down and then just as abruptly, the turbulence ceased. Her eyes flickered open once again.
Lexi stared out of the window. That was it. She was leaving Atlanta. She was already off to begin a new life somewhere completely different. It all seemed unreal, but she had to believe it. It was her reality.
Inwardly, she hoped everything would work out for her, for her journey had just begun.
