It couldn’t be happening.
Lexi’s worst fear.
It had to be a joke.
A dream.
No.
‘’No…this can’t be happening…this can’t be happening!’’ Lexi mumbled under her breath, her eyes roaming around the kitchen. She couldn’t imagine what would happen to her if she was caught up to. That would be the end of both her and Aleya. How could she get away from it and save herself?
Grabbing the phone on the counter with her feeble hands, Lexi at the speed of light, dialed Bella’s phone number. After the first ring, Bella picked up the call and Lexi immediately placed the phone on her ear.
‘’Bella? Bella?’’ Lexi called out, her voice cracking up. She couldn’t hide her fear. Her life was at stake.
‘’Lexi…we are in big trouble Lexi!’’ Bella’s voice increased the minute she called Lexi the second time. Just like Lexi and Aleya, Bella was struck. Aleya stood at the corner, her gaze not leaving Lexi and the phone on her ear.
‘’What exactly happened Bella? Tell me everything!’’ Without sparing another second, Bella spoke up.
‘’One of the girls…Eilis…’’ Lexi became confused. What did Eilis do?
‘’What happened?! Did she do anything!!? Talk to me Bella!!!’’ Lexi yelled as tears rolled down her cheeks. She hoped nothing had happened to Eilis.
‘’She…she…’’
‘’Spill it Bella!’’
‘’She’s dead! She’s dead, Lexi. She’s dead…’’ Bella burst into tears, her throat raw from holding in all the emotions.
Lexi felt like her world was crumbling.
No.
Eilis couldn’t be dead.
It couldn’t be possible.
‘’What do you mean she’s dead!!?’’ Screamed Lexi, the thought not being able to settle on her mind. Eilis being dead was something she knew she would never be able to comprehend or take in.
Apart from Aleya, Eilis was the second closest person to Lexi. She told her everything. There was nothing she hid from Eilis. Eilis was her everything. Eilis was the only person friendly towards her the moment she began her job at the strip club, before Aleya came.
‘’The billionaire she followed home, Lexi. I honestly…don’t know how it happened. It all seems like a dream…he killed her…just when she shot him…’’ Lexi’s whole system shut down the instant her heard Bella.
‘’She shot him!?’’ Aleya, who had come over to take it up from where Lexi stopped, asked Bella with a loud and frightened voice. Bella began to explain.
‘’We warned her not to. We told her not to go on with our initial plan, but she did not listen. You won’t believe the number of times we had to call her so she wouldn’t do it. We knew it would put not only her but the rest of us in big trouble.’’
‘’Hell.’’ Aleya muttered in disbelief. She found it hard to believe that Eilis would do something like that. Before they all decided to go home with the various billionaires present at the strip show, they all had everything planned out.
They knew what they were getting themselves into. Their head, Heather, was the one who brought up the idea of killing them, but Aleya reduced it to just drugging them, taking their money, and leaving the city. That was exactly where they left it.Before Eilis went against the girls and killed one of them. That would only mean one thing.
The police.
Jail.
Instant death for all of them. How they hell would they manage to get themselves out of it?
‘’So…what now? What do we do? What about Eilis?’’ Aleya said to Bella after she had snapped herself out of her thoughts.
‘’I don’t know what’s going on right now…’’
‘’Where are you?’’
‘’I’m at my place…p-packing up my stuff.’’
‘’You want to leave us all here!!? What kind of friend are you Bella!!!??’’ Aleya yelled, the fear leaving her immediately.
‘’Aleya our lives are in danger!! What do you want me to do!? Stay here and watch the cops take me to jail!? Be for real right now!’’ Bella yelled in return.
‘’I…I have to go Aleya…I really have to…I can’t stay here any longer. You should leave too.’’
Bella was right.
If they stayed, they would get caught. And that was definitely not what she wanted. They had to leave. Quick.
Before Aleya could speak to Bella again, she had already hung up. Shakily, she placed the phone on the counter to meet Lexi who was pacing about in the living room. She herself was lost in thoughts.
‘’Lexi.’’ Aleya called out to her.
Lexi turned to face her. ‘’What did she say?’’
‘’We have to leave. Or else the cops will catch up to us.’’ Aleya said.
‘’Leave? We have nowhere to go.’’ Lexi replied worriedly.
Aleya walked to where she stood. ‘’That’s not the problem now…we just have to get out of here…we will find our way wherever we end up.’’
Taking another look at Aleya, Lexi rushed up to her bedroom. She grabbed a few things-her phone, some clothes that she and Aleya would share, and some other valuables which she knew would be useful to the police. She didn’t want to take any risks. Any little mistake and they would be behind bars. Where would they go? She had no idea.
‘’The suitcase.’’ Lexi looked at Aleya. Without hesitation, Aleya scuttled to where she dropped the suitcase, picked it up and went back to meet Lexi.
‘’No matter what you do, never disclose our locations to anyone. In fact, turn it off on your phone. They can use that to get to us.’’ Just then, the both of them went to their phones. Without doing anything else, they made their way to the front door. They had enough money to get them to wherever they wanted to go to.
They never knew that the money they had made the previous night would be so useful to them the very next day. What if they had spent it on something less important? Then they wouldn’t bother leaving, as they would have nothing to help them escape.
Getting into the SUV they both shared, Lexi ignited the engine. After sharing one last look, Lexi drove out of the penthouse, the lights in the house turning off once the automatic gates had closed.
