Fourteen This time when I woke up, I wasn’t surprised to find my room bathed in darkness. Again, the barest hint of morning glow peeked in through my window, but otherwise the world was still asleep. No birds chirping or roosters crowing. No cattle trampling the earth to get to breakfast. No horses whinnying to get theirs. No scream-barking coyote to terrify the life out of me. No sounds of Genevieve or Ty moving around the house. The entire world was quiet. I, however, was wide awake.
