The next morning— Everything changed. Lena walked into the living room— And froze. Marcus was sitting there. Relaxed. Like he belonged. “How did you get in here?” she demanded. “Doors open easily,” he replied. “No, they don’t.” “They do… if you know where to look.” Her heart started racing. “Adrian—” “I know he’s here.” Adrian’s voice came from behind her. Cold. Controlled. Marcus stood slowly. “Well,” he said, “this is a nice setup.” “You shouldn’t be here.” “And yet I am.” Tension exploded. “I came to make you an offer,” Marcus added. “I’m not interested.” “You will be.” Marcus looked at Lena. Slowly. Deliberately. “That depends on her.” Her breath caught. “What does that mean?” Marcus smiled. “It means… she’s more important than you think.” Adrian stepped forward instantly. “Don’t involve her.” “Too late.” Silence. Deadly. “Because,” Marcus continued, “she’s the key to everything you’re hiding.” Lena turned to Adrian. “What is he talking about?” Adrian didn’t answer. And that silence— Said everything.
