I groaned, stepping into the shower. The water was cold for a moment, since I didn’t wait for it to warm up to get in. Sometimes I liked to stand in the cold water, feeling it go warm, revealing in the fact that no matter how cold or how hot it was, it didn’t really matter. Of course, I knew it needed to be hot to clean myself, but I didn’t shiver or feel cold if it was cold, and I didn’t yelp if it was scalding. Was there ever a time when it would have hurt, having that scalding hot water pouring down on me? Was there a time when I would have cried shivering as my teeth clattered together under the cold?
