chapter sixteen MORGAN I’m standing behind Jace at center stage tonight. He suggested that I have a spotlight solo and I’ve been working on the riff for nearly three weeks. It’s an ode to Bob Marley and during my practice sessions I aimed for a smooth-as-butter sound which is harder to achieve than the tone of the melody would suggest. We’re half-way through the set and I glance at Will. He’s in a black T-shirt over blue jeans. His expression is grim even as he bounces to the keyboard melody of “Real Love”. Jace is at the front with his guitar and Trey is to my left on the drums. The crowd is endless before us, their cell-phones flipping through the air like twinkling stars.
