Taylor scrambled to her feet and glanced toward the lake. Face down on the ground on the edge of the water, Cory lay very still. His clothes ripped and smoldered in some areas, blood spotted his back, legs, and matted hair. Her heart sank as she landed on her knees. She covered her mouth with her shaky hands and sobbed. "Mommy? Cory's...hurt." Her little girl's voice quivered. Blinking away the tears filling her eyes, Taylor glanced over her shoulder at her daughter. "Go inside. Quickly.
