Chapter 8

*Eliza's POV* It had been exactly one week since Alexander and I got married legally. One week of living in this huge mansion as his wife. But deep down, our marriage felt completely soulless and lifeless. There was no spark, no warmth, no connection. Alexander still loved only Elena. I could feel it in every cold glance, every short reply he gave to me, every night he turned his back to me in bed. I stared at the long dining table I had spent all afternoon preparing. I made every single luxurious dish myself even though we had maids and chefs. I wanted Alexander to see that I was making a real effort to make this marriage work. I smiled as I stared at the roasted lamb, the fresh lobster, the expensive wine I personally chose .... everything was perfect. I checked my phone again. 11:27 pm. He still wasn’t back. Just then, the front door opened. Alexander walked in looking exhausted, his tie was loosened, while his jacket was slung over his shoulder. Damn, he looked really tired. The workers greeted him respectfully. “Good evening, sir.” “Welcome home, Mr. Steele.” He nodded to them briefly. “Thank you.” I stood up quickly from the table, forcing a bright smile on my face. “Welcome home, Alexander.” He glanced at me for less than a second. “Hi.” That was it. No kiss. No hug. He didn’t even look at the beautiful dinner I had prepared. He just walked straight toward the stairs. The sting in my chest was sharp and painful. I felt tears burning behind my eyes, but I swallowed them and hurried after him. “Alexander, wait!” I called, following him up the stairs. He didn’t stop. I caught up to him just as we entered our bedroom. The moment the door closed behind us, I grabbed his wrist tightly. “What is my crime, Alexander?” I asked, my voice already shaking. “Tell me. What did I do so wrong that you treat me like this?” He looked at me, but said nothing. Tears spilled down my cheeks. I couldn’t hold them back anymore. “Why won’t you look at me the way you looked at Elena? What does my twin sister have that I don’t? I gave up everything for you! I risked my relationship with my own sister! I stood by you when she humiliated you with those viral slutty pictures. I married you. I’m trying so hard to make this work. Why can’t you even try to love me?” Alexander stared at me for a long second, his face was tired and empty. He gently removed his wrist from my grip. “Eliza, I’m very tired,” he said quietly. “I just want to rest.” That answer broke something inside me. The pain turned into anger and desperation. “No!” I cried, stepping closer. “You can’t keep doing this! Every night you come home late, you barely speak to me, you sleep on your side like I don’t exist. I’m your wife now! Your legal wife! Why do you still look at me like I’m nothing?” He sighed and turned toward the bed. “Eliza, please. Not tonight.” I felt my heart shattering. Without thinking, I reached behind me and pulled down the straps of my silk nightie gown. The fabric slid down my body, pooling at my feet. I stood completely naked in front of him, my breasts full and standing, my n*****s were hard and pointed from the cool air and my emotions. “Does this not turn you on?” I asked, my voice was breaking as fresh tears rolled down my face. “Look at me, Alexander. I’m your wife. I’m offering myself to you. Does my body not do anything for you? Am I really that unattractive compared to her?” He froze, his eyes finally landing on my naked body. For a moment, something flickered in his gaze, but it wasn’t desire. It was pity. Or maybe guilt. “Eliza you cannot…” he started, his voice low. I stepped closer, tears were streaming faster from my face at this point. “Answer me! What does Elena have that I don’t? Tell me! Is it because she’s carrying your baby? Is that why you can’t touch me? Because every time you look at me, you see her instead?” Alexander rubbed his face with both hands, looking completely drained. “I said I’m tired. Can we not do this right now?” “No, we’re doing this!” I sobbed, my voice rising now. “I deserve to know! I gave up my dignity for you. I betrayed my own twin sister. I stood in front of the whole world and said ‘I do’ while knowing you were thinking about her. The least you can do is be honest with me!” He looked at me again, his eyes were heavy. “Eliza, you knew what this was when you climbed into my bed that night. You knew I thought you were her.” The words hit me like a slap. More tears fell. “So that’s it?” I whispered brokenly. “I’ll never be enough for you? No matter how hard I try, no matter how much I cook for you, no matter how much I love you… I’ll always be second to Elena?” Alexander didn’t answer. He simply turned away and started unbuttoning his shirt, clearly done with the conversation. I stood there naked, exposed, and completely rejected, my heart bleeding. “Does this not turn you on? Look at me Alex, I'm fully undressed. Please touch me, I'm begging you” I begged again, my voice barely a whisper this time, full of pain and desperation.
