Aria woke up to another quiet morning. The sun was shining, but she couldn’t shake off the feeling of emptiness. It had been days since she saw Theo, but the confusion in her heart hadn’t gone away. She still wondered if she was making the right decision by keeping him out of her life. She didn’t want to feel weak. She didn’t want to go back to him, but the part of her that still loved him kept whispering, “Maybe, just maybe…”
She shook her head, trying to push the thoughts away. She had to be strong. She had to move on. But it wasn’t that simple.
She went to the kitchen and poured herself a cup of coffee. The sound of the coffee machine filled the room, and she let the warmth of the drink soothe her for a moment. Still, she couldn’t ignore the thoughts racing in her mind. Was Theo really sorry? Was he truly changed, or was he just saying what she wanted to hear?
Aria sighed and sat at the table, staring at her coffee. She had spent so much time loving him, trusting him, and believing in him. But all of that felt like a lie now. He had left her when she needed him the most. How could she just forget that? How could she just pretend like nothing had happened?
But then there were the moments when she saw his face in her mind, the way he had looked at her when he apologized. The pain in his eyes had been real. She could see it, and it made her heart ache. But was that enough? Was it enough to trust him again?
She didn’t know.
Aria had always been the kind of person who trusted easily. But now, after everything that happened, it felt like that trust was gone. It was hard to know who to believe, what to believe. And the hardest part was knowing that a part of her still wanted to believe in Theo, still wanted to believe in the love they once shared.
She got up from the table and walked to the window, looking out at the busy street below. People were going about their day, laughing, talking, and living their lives. She wondered if they ever thought about the pain she was feeling. Did they know what it felt like to have someone you loved break your heart?
Aria’s phone buzzed on the table, snapping her out of her thoughts. She picked it up, and her heart skipped a beat when she saw the name on the screen.
Theo.
She stared at the message for a long time before finally deciding to open it. She knew it wasn’t fair to keep pushing him away without hearing what he had to say. He deserved a chance to explain himself.
The message read:
“Aria, I’ve been thinking a lot about us. I know I hurt you, and I understand if you can’t forgive me. But please, just know that I’m here if you ever want to talk. I still care about you, and I’m not giving up on us. Take all the time you need, but please don’t shut me out completely."
Aria read the message over and over. Each time, it felt like her heart was being pulled in two different directions. She didn’t know what to do. She wanted to believe him, but how could she? How could she go back to someone who had hurt her so badly?
She put the phone down, pushing it aside. It wasn’t easy, but she knew she had to focus on herself right now. She couldn’t keep living in the past, wondering if things could be different. She had to heal. She had to be strong enough to move on.
But no matter how much she told herself that, a part of her was still holding onto the past, still holding onto the idea of Theo. She wasn’t sure if that would ever change.
Later that day, Aria went out for a walk to clear her mind. The streets were busy with people coming and going, but she felt alone in the crowd. The sound of people talking, cars passing by, it all seemed so distant, like she was in a world of her own.
She passed by the café where she and Theo used to go, and for a moment, she stopped and looked inside. It was just like it used to be—the same table by the window, the same smell of coffee in the air. The memories flooded back. The good ones, the ones where everything felt perfect. But those memories were gone now. The promises, the laughter, the love—they had all disappeared when Theo walked away.
Aria turned and continued walking, her heart heavy with the weight of everything she was feeling. She wasn’t sure what she wanted. She didn’t know if she was ready to forgive him, but she also didn’t want to let go of what they had. She didn’t know if it was worth fighting for or if she should just let it go and move on for good.
As she walked, her mind kept going back to the message Theo sent her. “I still care about you. I’m not giving up on us.”
She had heard those words before. He had said the same things when he left, and look where that had gotten her. He had promised her he wouldn’t leave, but he did. And now, here he was again, saying he wouldn’t give up. But was that enough? Could she trust him again?
The questions wouldn’t stop.
Aria reached the park and sat on a bench under a tree, trying to calm her racing thoughts. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. The cool air helped clear her mind a little, but the pain in her chest remained. She knew what she needed to do. She needed to make a choice.
She couldn’t keep going back and forth, unsure of what to do. She needed to decide whether she was ready to forgive Theo and try again or if it was time to move on for good. She knew that whatever choice she made would change everything. There was no turning back once she made her decision.
As Aria sat there, deep in thought, she felt a sense of peace for the first time in days. It wasn’t a solution, but it was a start. She didn’t have to have all the answers right now. She just needed time to figure it out.
For now, Aria knew one thing: She needed to heal. She couldn’t keep living in the past, holding onto something that might never come back. And no matter what happened, she would be okay. She would be strong enough to move forward, even if that meant saying goodbye to Theo forever.
