The days continued to pass, and Aria tried to keep moving forward. She stayed busy with work, spent time with her friends, and avoided places that reminded her of Theo. But the pain of what had happened still lingered in the back of her mind, and no matter how much she tried to ignore it, the memories always came back.
She had made up her mind. She couldn’t keep going back to Theo. She had to let go. It wasn’t easy, but she knew that holding on to him, to the past, would only make things harder. She had already been hurt once, and she couldn’t let it happen again.
One afternoon, Aria went to the park to clear her head. The sun was bright, and the air was warm. She walked slowly along the path, listening to the sound of leaves rustling in the breeze. She passed by families playing, couples laughing, and children running around. It felt so peaceful, but the weight on her heart was still there.
As she sat on a bench by the fountain, she couldn’t help but think of the time when everything had seemed perfect. When she and Theo had been happy, and nothing else mattered. But now, those memories felt like a different lifetime. She had changed. She wasn’t the same person anymore.
“Hey.”
Aria looked up, surprised to see Liza standing in front of her. Her best friend smiled softly and sat down beside her.
“How are you doing?” Liza asked, her voice gentle. She had been there for Aria through everything, and Aria knew she could always count on her.
Aria sighed, resting her hands on her lap. “I’m trying. I really am. But... I don’t know. It’s still hard.”
“I know,” Liza said. “It’s never easy. But you’re doing what’s best for you. You’re choosing to move on, and that’s the most important thing.”
Aria nodded slowly. She knew Liza was right. She had to choose herself now, even if it meant leaving Theo behind. It hurt to think about it, but she couldn’t let herself be stuck in the past. She had to let go of the hope that things could be fixed.
“I still love him,” Aria whispered, looking down at her hands. “But I can’t keep holding onto something that’s already gone.”
Liza put a hand on her shoulder, giving her a reassuring squeeze. “That’s okay. It’s normal to still care about someone, even when it’s over. But you have to love yourself more. You have to give yourself the chance to heal, to find happiness again. And you can’t do that if you’re holding onto the past.”
Aria took a deep breath. Liza was right. She couldn’t keep holding on to something that wasn’t meant to be. It was time to move forward, no matter how hard it was. She had to let Theo go.
“I’ve been holding onto him for so long,” Aria said quietly. “But I can’t keep doing this. I need to let go, for my own sake.”
Liza smiled, proud of her friend. “You’re strong, Aria. I’m proud of you.”
Aria smiled back, feeling a small sense of relief. It wasn’t easy, but she was starting to feel like she could breathe again. Letting go wasn’t something that could happen overnight, but it was a step in the right direction.
“I’ll be okay, right?” Aria asked, looking at Liza with uncertainty in her eyes.
“You will be,” Liza said confidently. “You just need time. And I’ll be here for you, every step of the way.”
Aria felt a weight lift off her shoulders. It wasn’t the end of the pain, but it was the beginning of healing. For the first time in a long time, she felt like she could finally start to move forward.
As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the park, Aria stood up, ready to face the future. She wasn’t sure what it held, but she knew one thing for sure: she was done living in the past. It was time to let go and start living for herself.
