Chapter 6: A New Beginning

815 Words
Aria woke up feeling different. There was no weight on her chest like before, no feeling of being trapped in the past. It was as if she had finally let go, and with that, a small sense of peace settled within her. She no longer thought about Theo every minute of the day. The pain had started to fade, and although she still remembered him, it didn’t hurt as much. She stood up, walked over to her window, and looked out at the city. It was another busy day, but this time, she felt ready to face it. It was a new chapter of her life, one that didn’t include him. She had spent so much time thinking about what went wrong, wondering if she had made the right choice by letting him go. But now, she knew she had. Aria smiled softly to herself. It wasn’t easy, but she was learning to put herself first. Her phone buzzed on the table, interrupting her thoughts. She walked over and saw a message from Liza. “Lunch today? Let’s catch up!” Aria smiled and quickly replied, “Yes! I’d love to.” She was excited to meet up with her best friend. They hadn’t spent much time together lately, and Aria was looking forward to a distraction—something that didn’t involve thinking about her past. Later that afternoon, Aria met Liza at their usual spot, a small café that served the best sandwiches in town. Liza was already waiting at the table, smiling when she saw Aria. “You look different,” Liza said as Aria sat down across from her. “Better. Lighter.” Aria chuckled. “I feel lighter. I don’t know, it’s like something shifted. I think I’m finally letting go of all the things that were holding me back.” Liza nodded, clearly proud of her. “That’s amazing. You deserve to feel free. It’s been a long road, but you’re getting there.” They spent the next hour talking about everything—work, their friends, and even some silly stuff that made them laugh. For the first time in a long time, Aria felt truly happy. It felt good to not worry about the past and just enjoy the moment. As they finished their lunch, Liza looked at her with a soft smile. “You’re strong, Aria. I’m really proud of you. You’ve come so far.” Aria smiled back, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. “Thank you, Liza. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without you.” Liza waved it off. “You’d be just fine, but I’m glad you’ve got me. You’re stronger than you think.” Aria took a deep breath and let out a small laugh. She was ready for whatever came next. She didn’t need Theo. She didn’t need anyone else to complete her. She had herself, and that was enough. As the day went on, Aria felt a sense of calm she hadn’t experienced in a long time. She didn’t know what the future held, but she was no longer afraid of it. The pain of the past had made her stronger, and she was ready to face whatever came her way. Weeks passed, and Aria continued to focus on herself. She spent time with her friends, worked on her goals, and slowly but surely, the thought of Theo didn’t hurt anymore. She realized that she didn’t need him to be happy. She was capable of creating her own happiness. One afternoon, she ran into someone new at work. His name was Mark, and he had just started working in the office next door. He was kind, easy to talk to, and most importantly, he made her laugh. At first, she didn’t think much of it. She wasn’t ready for anything serious, but it felt good to be around someone who made her smile. As the weeks went by, Aria found herself looking forward to their conversations. They shared small moments, like grabbing coffee together or talking during lunch breaks. Aria felt her heart slowly starting to open up again, but this time, she wasn’t rushing into anything. She was enjoying getting to know Mark, without the pressure of jumping into a relationship. She didn’t need to rush. She was still focused on herself and what made her happy. And if something more came from it, then it would. She knew that she deserved someone who truly cared for her, someone who would never make her feel like Theo did. One evening, as Aria sat by her window, she looked out at the city again. It was a quiet moment, but for the first time in a long time, it felt peaceful. She had let go of the past, and now, she was ready for whatever the future held. For the first time, Aria was truly at peace with herself.
