Chapter 3: The Choice

688 Words
Days passed, and Aria tried her best to focus on her life without thinking about Theo. But every time she closed her eyes, she saw his face. The memory of his apology kept coming back to her, and it felt like a battle inside her heart. She spent most of her days at work or with her friends, keeping herself busy to avoid the pain. But there were moments when she found herself alone, staring at the walls of her apartment, wondering if she had made the right choice. One evening, after a long day at work, Aria went for a walk to clear her mind. The air was cool, and the sound of the city at night felt oddly comforting. As she walked down the familiar streets, she thought about the last time she saw Theo, and how much it hurt to see him standing there, asking for forgiveness. But the thing was, she still loved him. She knew it. No matter how much he had hurt her, a part of her still wanted to believe that things could be different, that they could be happy again. “Aria…” Her heart skipped a beat. She turned around quickly, and there he was—Theo. Standing a few steps away, looking at her with those same sad eyes. “Theo…” Aria whispered, her voice barely audible. She didn’t expect to see him again, not like this. “I’ve been looking for you,” he said, his voice soft. “I know I don’t deserve it, but I need to talk to you.” Aria took a deep breath, trying to keep her emotions in check. “What do you want from me, Theo?” she asked, her voice shaking slightly. She didn’t know what to say. She wasn’t sure if she was ready to listen to him again. “I just… I need you to know that I’m not giving up on us,” Theo said, his eyes full of hope. “I know I messed up, and I know it’s not easy for you to trust me again. But I’ll do anything to prove that I’m sorry. I love you, Aria. I always have.” Aria felt a lump form in her throat. She wanted to tell him that she still loved him too, but the words didn’t come out. The pain of the past still felt too fresh, too real. “I don’t know if I can forgive you, Theo,” Aria said quietly. “You hurt me. You broke my heart. I don’t know if I’m strong enough to trust you again.” Theo took a step forward, his voice filled with sincerity. “I know I hurt you, and I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you if I have to. I’ll prove to you that I’ve changed. I’m not asking for you to forgive me right away. I just want a chance.” Aria stood there, her mind racing. Her heart ached, torn between the love she still felt for him and the pain he caused her. She didn’t want to live in the past, but she also didn’t want to close the door on something that had once made her so happy. “I can’t make any promises,” Aria said, her voice trembling. “But I need time, Theo. Time to heal. Time to figure out if I can trust you again.” Theo nodded, his face full of understanding. “I’ll wait. I’ll wait as long as you need. Just… don’t shut me out completely.” Aria looked at him one last time before turning away, walking slowly down the street. Her heart felt heavy, but she knew she couldn’t make a decision in that moment. She needed space. She needed time to think about what was best for her. Would she give Theo a second chance? Or would the pain he caused her keep her from trusting him again? Only time would tell. But for now, Aria knew she had to focus on healing herself before she could even think about love again.
