The Dinner

1245 Words
Sasha's POV I was just lying down comfortably on the bed as I did not have anything else to do, or so I thought. I decided to wait for the mysterious dinner as the voice faded into the labyrinth. She did not respond again; I don't know where this voice went, and I don't understand why it keeps disturbing me without a meaningful outcome. I checked the wall clock to see that the time had really gone far. This can only mean one thing–that the dinner is at hand. My heart beats faster on its own at the thought of that. All of a sudden, I heard a knock on the door and I just knew she had come to invite me for the dinner. To alert me that I was the only one absent. This is something about the royal household. “Yes?” “The Alpha prince has said I should bring you to the dining hall,” she said as soon as she stepped into the room. I stood up and trailed behind her ‘as usual,’ I said to myself. I was prepared because I really don't want to displease my helpers so much. “Here we are,” she said and left me with multiple eyes staring blankly at me. I can see that one of them sat at the chief position of the dining table. After a closer look, I recalled he was the same person who had come into the hospital room the other day and acted very strangely. From the aura he was exuding, one could tell he was none other but the Alpha prince. The Alpha prince I'd kept hearing about. He gestured for me to sit down on a seat he pointed to, and I obeyed like a timid teenager being instructed by her crush. After a while, dinner was served, and everyone ate in silence, and I wondered if they knew how to talk. About 20 minutes into the meal, someone stood up and left. I guess he finished his meal. Before I knew it, others began to exit the dining hall one after the other. I was left with the same person I thought to be the Alpha prince everyone had been talking about. The moment was awkward and the quietness in the room could testify. “You're Sasha”, he finally spoke, and I gulped my saliva and took a deep breath I didn't know I had been holding while staring blankly at my plate all the while. “Y-yes” I was already trembling in my voice as I recalled he was the one who would feed his enemies to his dogs. “Don't stutter, my dear. Be free with yourself and be rest assured that you are safe.” I couldn't believe what I heard. Did he just tell me to be free in such a loving tone? I foresaw him to be cruel; to despise me just like everyone else, to send me out of here at that minute. But I also thought about it, why he'd summoned me to join the meal in the royal dining hall. “I hope you enjoyed your meal, and how is your body feeling?” he asked, making me more nervous and surprised. This gave me the energy to talk. “Thank you…” Oh, s**t! I don't know what to call him. “It's alright, I'm the Alpha prince but you can call me Stanley” he took it from me, just like he knew what I was battling with. “Alpha prince Stanley”, I completed my statement as my mouth hung open, all the while trying to find the right words to put together. Seriously, I was scared s**t out of this environment. There is something sinister about this warm attitude he is putting up. I can feel something is wrong, but I can't tell yet. He is being so kind, way more than I could imagine. He was just there, smiling as he asked me these questions politely. What is going on? I asked myself rhetorically. “You can go to your room now and rest, and remember to take your drugs as the doctor had instructed.” How come he knew about that as well? Oh, yes, he is the Alpha's son, but must he know everything about everything? “I will”, I muttered, but loud enough for him to hear me. I could hear him chuckle at my timidity, but I didn't really care about that right now as I walked away from the dining hall, leaving him alone in the room. Is this also a thing for him to be the last to leave the dining hall? There are so many weird things going on in this pack and palace. Why does it feel so strange? Way too strange. I got to my room and collapsed on the bed. I started to worry about this new fate that I had been brought to. There was something hidden behind the show of affection that the alpha prince put out there a few moments ago. Will I also be subjected to this kind of ill fate all the time? I know there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, but what if I don't get to meet that? What if I don't make it to the end of the tunnel before I am thrown out of existence, to go and meet my parents? *** “My daughter, the time is coming for you to serve your purpose” That was my mom's voice, and I felt it so well. “What do you mean?” My curiosity got the better of me as I heeded the temptation to ask. “You just have to be strong because you are made for this. Your father and I will be waiting for you on the other side,” she added and disappeared. “Wait, Mom”, I called out, but she had left already. Where did she go? What is the case? Am I dreaming? This feels like a dream, but it is too real to be called a dream. I turned around to see a door shining brightly. I traced my steps to go to the door. I wanted to find out what was there; maybe that was where Mom had gone. As soon as I stepped into the light through the door, I saw myself blinking my eyes. I blinked repeatedly and found a ceiling above my lying figure. “Oh, it was a dream” I confirmed as I saw the morning light piercing through the glass window. For the first time, I realized how big this room was. It was like the one I lived in, back then in Wildermoon Pack when the Alpha was still alive, and taking care of me. But this one is something bigger. A knock on the door brought me out of my thoughts. I stood to answer the call and the maid jolted inside the room like it was an emergency. She went straight ahead to drop the trail she was holding and this rose my curiosity as I saw it was food. My food. “Don't leave your room, something is wrong in the pack”, she said in a breath and dashed out of the room, shutting the door behind her. “What is wrong?”
