Taylor climbed awkwardly into the rowboat, almost falling backwards into the water as it rocked and bucked on the waves. She dared not look at Ulysses. She could easily imagine the amused smirk on his face as he watched her blundering clumsiness. Finally, she clambered aboard, all ungainly legs and arms, and settled herself down onto the planked seat. She picked up the oars and wrangled them into the oar holders on either side of the boat, before dipping them into the water and pulling back with all of her might. The boat surged effortlessly away from the shore. At last, she had control of the boat and, holding tightly to the handle of each oar, she dipped them again into the water and pulled hard.
