CHAPTER5

Step one had already been completed, Aiden had finally agreed to marry me. Although I felt guilty that I had to use his weakness to lure him into accepting my proposal. For a moment, I felt like I was just as selfish as Damien, he had also used my weakness and desperateness for love to rob me of my properties. I hastily waved off the thought as I gazed at myself in the standing room. I looked stunning, I was dressed in a yellow sunflower dress and my hair was neatly styled into a bun. Today was the day that I would introduce Aiden as my fiancee to my family, most especially to my father, I could not care less about what my step mother and step siblings thought. A knock on my door startled me and jolted me back to reality. I sluggishly dragged my feet and opened the door widely. It was Aiden standing close to the door. He looked extremely gorgeous in a white T-shirt that hugged his chest tight revealing his muscular physique. His long legs were clad into baggy suit pants and he had a straight on. I could not help admire how handsome he looked, his facial structure was like that of a model, as a matter of fact, his looks screamed bad boy vibes and his heterochromic eyes were what caught my attention the most. Aiden raised a brow at me and that was when I realized that I had been staring at him for so long. "Sorry." I muttered. Aiden cleared his throat and asked. "You ready? Your parents and siblings are in the dining room waiting to hear what confession you have." He said. I nodded my head at him, I felt slightly anxious but I was also determined to convince my father to let Aiden be my husband. "Wait." I suddenly remembered that I had bought a chess board from the supermarket some days ago. My father liked playing chess a lot so I was going to make Aiden present that as a gift to him. I fetched the gift bag from my closet and handed it to Aiden. "What is that?" He eyed the gift bag weirdly as he reluctantly accepted it. "It is a chess board. My dad likes playing chess so we are going to pretend like you got him that." I said with a cheeky smile. Aiden nodded his head at me. He sighed heavily as we walked out of my room. The dining room was set already and just as Aiden had mentioned earlier. My father was sitting on the left side of the table with my step mothers, Tamara and Josephine. Tamara was the mother of Joseph and Lillian whereas Josephine had not given birth to a child of her own. As I walked into the dining room with my hands intertwined with Aiden's hands. I noticed how Lillian would not stop eyeing me in disdain. Tamara noticed as well and she had almost choked on the water she was drinking. "Seems like you and Aiden have gotten so close now. I remember how you had rejected him from being your bodguard some days ago." My father said with a low chuckle. I smiled at him as I settled down on the empty seat facing my father, Aiden sat besides me. "Why is he joining us to eat? The other slaves in the house do not join us." Joseph muttered. I fought back the urge to retaliate. Why was he addressing Aiden as a slave? I sighed heavily and cleared my throat. "Aiden is not a slave. As a matter of fact, we both have something important to tell you all." I said. I glanced at Aiden and he had a straight face on, well that was how he looked all of the time. I always wondered whether he ever experienced emotions like fear, anxiety, embarrassment and the likes. "Your daughter and i are engaged sir." Aiden blurted out. I gazed at him and he offered me a reassuring smile, I could not tell if it was a fake one or a real one. "What?" Tamara yelled, her eyes widened in shock. "What do you mean engaged? Sorry to break it to you but my sister is legally married to Damien." Joseph said, with a slight scoff. I knew it was my turn to speak. I cleared my throat and although it hurt me as I slowly uttered the name of that traitor. "Damien and i had our differences and we have decided to go our separate ways." I said. "Just like that? You both have been married for years!" Lillian yells. I ignored her and gazed at my father, his silence kept me anxious. I was unsure whether he was on my side or not. "A lot has happened and I do not think you guys need to know about. Aiden and I now love each other and we want to get married." I said. "Impossible!" Tamara slammed the table, Josephine on the other hand kept quiet. She was the quiet type who barely ever aired her opinion. I knew she was only married to my father because of his wealth, she cared about nothing else but money. "You are not my mother!" I yelled back at her. Aiden's hands reach for my shoulder and he rubbed it gently, trying to calm me down. None of that worked though, I was too angry at the moment. No one understood my feelings, no one knew what Damien had did to me and that was why they were refusing to let me marry Aiden. "Father you need to say something. I no longer want to be with Damien, he has caused me so much pain!" I cried out with tears rolling down cheeks. I could no longer control my feelings. I was weak and heartbroken. Dad cleared his throat and his next words left me frozen. "Have you seen the news headline today?" What headline? What did he mean by that? I felt my heart race extremely fast as I knew that Damien had done the worse to me yet again, I just wondered what it was this time.
