The Mate He Lost

730 Words
The hall erupted into chaos. “What?!” “Did the king just claim her?” “This is impossible!” The whispers spread like wildfire. Aria could barely think. King Kael’s arm remained around her waist, steady and protective, while her mind struggled to process everything that had happened. Only minutes ago, she had been rejected before the entire pack. Now the Lycan King himself was claiming her. None of it felt real. Across the room, Damon’s face had gone dark with anger. “You can’t do that.” Kael arched an eyebrow. “Can’t I?” “She’s a member of my pack.” The king’s cold laugh sent chills down everyone’s spine. “She is not your property, Alpha.” Damon clenched his fists. Aria noticed something strange. For the first time since rejecting her, he looked unsettled. Almost nervous. As if he suddenly realized the situation was slipping beyond his control. Selena quickly stepped beside Damon and wrapped her arm around his. “Why are we even discussing this?” she said loudly. “She’s just an omega.” Several pack members nodded. Aria lowered her gaze. The words still hurt. No matter how many times she heard them. Just an omega. Weak. Worthless. A burden. Before anyone could speak again, Kael turned his icy gaze toward Selena. The temperature in the room seemed to drop. “Say that again.” Selena froze. The confidence vanished from her face. For a moment, she couldn’t speak. The king’s voice became dangerously calm. “I dare you.” Nobody moved. Nobody breathed. Even Damon looked uneasy. Selena quickly lowered her head. “I-I didn’t mean any disrespect, Your Majesty.” Kael looked away as though she no longer existed. His attention returned to Aria. “You are injured.” Aria blinked. Only then did she realize blood was trickling from her palm where her nails had dug into her skin. The king gently took her hand. His touch was warm. Strangely comforting. A faint silver glow appeared around his fingers. The small wound disappeared. Gasps filled the room. Healing. The Lycan King had healed her with a touch. Aria stared at her hand in shock. “Why are you helping me?” she whispered. For the first time, something softened in Kael’s eyes. “You still don’t know.” “Know what?” Before he could answer, another voice interrupted. “Your Majesty.” An elderly woman stepped forward from the crowd. She was one of the oldest pack elders. Her face had turned pale. Her hands trembled. The king nodded. “Speak.” The elder looked at Aria. Then at Kael. And finally at Damon. Regret filled her eyes. “There is something everyone should know.” The room became silent once again. Aria felt her stomach tighten. The old woman took a deep breath. “Aria Nightshade was never supposed to belong to Alpha Damon.” The words stunned everyone. Damon’s eyes widened. “What are you talking about?” The elder swallowed hard. “Years ago, a prophecy was given to this pack.” A murmur spread through the crowd. Prophecies were rare. Dangerous. Often life-changing. The elder continued. “The prophecy spoke of a girl born under the Blood Moon.” Aria’s heart skipped a beat. She had been born during a Blood Moon. Everyone knew that. “The girl would one day become the Luna of a king.” The room exploded with whispers. Damon stared at Aria. Then at Kael. “No…” The elder nodded slowly. “Her destiny was never tied to this pack.” Kael’s jaw tightened. As though he had known part of the truth already. Aria’s pulse raced. Everything she believed about her life suddenly felt like a lie. Then the elder revealed the final secret. “The Blood Moon girl is not an ordinary omega.” Silence. “She carries the lost bloodline of the Moon Queen.” The room went completely still. Even Damon looked stunned. Aria’s breath caught. “What?” The elder’s eyes filled with emotion. “For nineteen years, we kept the secret hidden.” Kael stepped forward. His expression was unreadable. But his next words made Aria’s world tilt. “The moment I saw you…” His silver eyes locked onto hers. “…I knew the prophecy had finally awakened.”
