The Toilet of Memories

1093 Words
Mary was right. It was the old girls’ bathroom. The place where everything began. The building stood abandoned now — burned, broken, taped off — but inside, the air felt alive with orange smoke. Tiles were cracked. Mirrors shattered. Walls scorched black. In the middle of the ruined restroom, Alexa stood. She had reshaped one toilet seat entirely out of swirling orange smoke — solid yet flickering. Kira was on her knees in front of it. Screaming. “PLEASE! Alexa, please!” Alexa tilted her head slowly. “You remember this place, don’t you?” Her voice was calm. Cold. “When you shoved my head into toilet seats…” Kira sobbed. “Alexa, if you can hear me… I’m not proud of what I did! I was awful! I was insecure! I was jealous! I’m sorry!” Silence filled the bathroom. Only the faint crackle of orange energy echoed. Alexa sighed softly. “Wow,” she said lightly. “That was an interesting speech.” She leaned closer. “If Alexa were here… I bet she’d forgive you easily.” Her eyes flared bright orange. Her voice deepened. “But I don’t.” The ITE voice layered over hers. “We… are… here.” Kira trembled violently. Alexa stepped back and pointed at the toilet. “Now.” Her eyes burned brighter. “Flush your head in the toilet.” Kira stared in horror. “What—” “With the ITE voice—” “You heard me. Flush yourself.” Orange smoke wrapped around Kira’s arms and shoulders, forcing her body forward. She screamed as her head was pushed halfway into the swirling orange seat— CRACK! A powerful lightning bolt slammed into Alexa. She flew backward — smashing into the wall — but landed smoothly on her feet. Valerina stood in the doorway, hand still glowing. “I’m sorry, Alexa,” she said quietly. Alexa slowly lifted her head. Her glow intensified — deeper orange. Valerina narrowed her eyes. “Oh,” she said calmly. “I wasn’t talking to you.” She pointed slightly. “I was talking to the person who owns the body.” Footsteps thundered behind her. Seraphine. Elowen. Ariella. Sarah. Mary. Tedros. And behind them — robed figures. Ariella looked sharply. “Who are they?” Elowen answered grimly. “The Councillors of Arcadia.” Sarah whispered, “We don’t need them.” Elowen replied quietly, “I couldn’t stop them.” Mary stepped forward. “You cannot hurt her. My best friend is in there.” One of the Councillors spoke coldly. “She is merging further with the ITE. If we do not end this now, it will not stop.” Alexa slowly stood upright. “You know,” she said casually, brushing imaginary dust from her sleeve, “I’ve been listening to you this whole time.” She looked at the Councillors. “These are the great guardians of Arcadia?” She smiled mockingly. “I expected more.” One Councillor roared in anger and unleashed a full-force blast of energy. It struck Alexa square in the chest. She staggered backward. Another dashed forward with super-speed — —and drove a glowing sword straight into her torso. Sarah screamed. “NO!” Mary cried, “Alexa!” The sword pierced through her. Alexa gasped, struggling for breath. She dropped to one knee. Blood stained the floor. Mary rushed forward, tears streaming. “Alexa! Stay with me!” Sarah grabbed her hand. “We’re here!” Alexa looked at them weakly. “Tell my family…” Her voice trembled. “…I—” Suddenly her head lifted. Her eyes flared orange. “With the ITE voice—” “This was fun.” Mary and Sarah stumbled backward in horror. Alexa slowly stood up. The sword inside her began glowing. Burning. Melting. Her wound closed instantly. The Councillors stepped back in shock. Alexa laughed. “Well,” she said casually, stretching her shoulders, “did I act well? I’m pretty sure I’ll pass drama class today.” She clapped her hands lightly. “That was impressive, Councillors.” Her eyes flashed orange. Instantly, all the Councillors were lifted into the air and slammed against the bathroom walls — pinned by invisible force. Mr and Mrs Richardson rushed in, horrified. Mr Richardson shouted, “What are you doing?!” Alexa smiled sweetly. “Oh hey, Daniel. These Councillors were about to kill your daughter. You might want to warn them.” Mr Richardson turned angrily toward the Councillors. “You tried to kill her?!” One Councillor groaned. “It’s bigger than us…” Alexa slowly extended her hand toward Kira. Orange smoke yanked Kira away from the others and dragged her beside Alexa. Sarah lunged forward. “Let her go!” “Ah-ah-ah,” Alexa said playfully. “Why fight this?” She looked at them thoughtfully. “What about your precious Arcadia?” Silence fell. She tilted her head as if listening to something invisible. “Why would you be so heartless… and leave them… still training?” Realization hit them all. Ariella whispered, “No…” Alexa smiled wider. “Oh yes.” She pretended to glance at a watch on her wrist. “You have about forty-five minutes before the whole building collapses.” Elowen gasped. “You attacked Arcadia.” Alexa shrugged. “Orange shadows are very obedient.” She leaned closer. “Tick-tock.” She grabbed Kira, who was paralyzed in terror. “See you.” Orange smoke swallowed them both. They vanished. The bathroom erupted into chaos. “Release the Councillors!” Sarah shouted. They tried — but the invisible hold remained. Ariella stepped forward, eyes focused. Frost energy gathered around her hands. She slowly pulled at the binding magic. It weakened. The Councillors dropped to the floor. Then Ariella stepped back. “I won’t release you fully until this is over,” she said sharply. “You nearly killed my sister.” Elowen stepped forward urgently. “We split up.” Mr Richardson nodded. “Who goes where?” Mary spoke firmly. “I know exactly where she’ll take Kira next.” Ariella and Seylah said together, “We’re going with you.” Tedros stepped forward. “So am I.” Mr and Mrs Richardson turned toward Elowen. “We’ll go to Arcadia.” Seraphine nodded. “Kai, with us.” Kai stepped forward immediately. Elowen looked at everyone. “No mistakes. No delays.” The clock was ticking. And somewhere— Alexa was smiling.
