She Still Wants You

A REMINDER

Meagan's POV 

After a week and some days, Kae called me when I was capturing graduation pictures of my friend Derrick's fiancée, Michelle. 

"Hey Kae, how are you?" I picked the call."Am good baby girl, what you doing?" Kae replied "Am working, am capturing a friend's graduation. What's up?" I replied while plugging in the headsets to my phone.

"Oh, I thought you were free. I have something for you. Am in town." Kae replied sounding happier than usual. 

"Can you wait for me, I will be done in like an hour.... what did you get me by the way?" Curious me replied wanting to know Kae's surprise present.

 "You'll see it when you come. I will stick around town waiting for you, and give me a call when you done." Kae's reply made me start wondering what she bought for me. "Ohk I'll do likewise, as soon as am done here" I reply a second before Kae hanged up.........After half an hour I was done capturing Michelle and I was on my way home.

~Ain't you done yet?~ Kae's text reminded me of our link up in town. I called her to find out where she was and luckily she was somewhere near the taxi station.

Shortly we are together eating a snack, while am continuously asking her about the present she was talking about."Relax, baby girl. I'll give you your present..., there's something that I want to tell you before I give you your gift." Kae said looking pale like she was about to tell me about someone's death. "I messed up, and I wouldn't want you to end up like me." Kae's start tone sounding low like she about to shade tears."Whats wrong? What happened, what did you do?" I asked confused and curious.

"Am pregnant, and I don't know who is the father between Mark and Scott." Kae said looking remorseful like she wishes she could reverse things. 

"Hhaaa, You must be kidding..., I don't know Mark and I know Scott has a thing for you but getting you pregnant is something unusual especially for a guy like him..., Kate getting pregnant..., that's a joke of the year." I chuckled arguing Kae's news. 

'She might look serious like she telling the truth but from the way I know Kae, she is not the type to embrace pregnancy in her twenties and much worse that of an unknown father.' I continued arguing with myself in my mind.

"Am telling you the truth Meagan, I know it is so not me, and it will be hard for you to believe it buh it is true." Kae's reply installed some belief in me. Kae always calls me baby girl, she rarely calls me by my first name. 

'This has to be serious' I said to myself.

"Did you tell them that they're going to be fathers?" I ask Kae, as I slowly started sympathizing.

"I told them..., Mark rejected it and Scott said he will be taking care of me in the meantime just incase he is the father, but as soon the baby is born he will take a DNA test" Kae looks down to wipe a tear as she was replying.

"So what are you going to do now?" I ask her wondering how she would do as a mother. 

"I guess I'll just have to accept the reality that I'll be a mother in my dreams" Kae says bursting in laugher. "I was just playing with you baby girl, am not pregnant. I can't get pregnant now I still wanna have fun." Kae said while laughing. 

I look at kae speechless, thinking of how serious she looked and how dumb I feel to fall for her prank.

"Pshhh..., Okay, that was well played. I had even started thinking of a cute names for the baby." I reveal my recent thoughts as I was still digesting Kae's prank. 

"Yeap, I had to play it good to make it feel real. Otherwise how was it out of 10?" Kae replied before taking a sip."Mmmm I would give you nine, that was a great act for someone whose not a dedicated actress. You  should try out acting, you might ace your expectations." I reply giving out my honest review, Kae can make a very good actress with her intuitive and interactive personality. 

"Okay now tell me what's the present you wanted to get me" I ask while debating in my mind, maybe it could be another prank."Oh yea, your present I almost forgot about that. Ok for this one you'll have to close your eyes." Kae said while opening her hand bag. "Mmmm is this another prank? I knew it was a prank" I say in my mind as I faintly close my eyes to take peek. 

"You are the first person that came to mind when I saw it. It is beautiful just like the one you were always talking about from that jewellery catalog. I thought of making it a reminder to you about our plan when am not around." Kae said handing me a cute small box. 

Curious me quickly opened the box to see how it looked like.  "Awwwr, Kate. Its beautiful. Thank you, thank you, thank you... you just don't how much I love it. And it looks a whole lot like my dream wedding ring." Happy me feeling so good, I stood up to go hug Kae who was seated opposite me on the table."You're the best, I love you Kate. Thank you" I said getting back to my seat. "Any time baby girl, you're always welcome little sis..." Kae's words remind me of how intimate we are. Kae has really been a big sister to me, I really owe her many acts of love and support. "So now that you have a ring, will you stop taking those safe pills and have a child?." Kae asked ironically knowing my principle.

"Pshhh, nah. It didn't come from Oscar. If he was the one who had bought a ring for me, I would  start planing of giving him a wild sexy night that would give us twins. And this ring is expensive, I don't think Oscar would afford its catalog price.I wonder how much you bought it at?" I said looking at the ring.

"Don't worry about that baby girl, I have connections who know how to cut the prices for me.And speaking of money and connections, I have to leave by next week. Am going on some workshop,I will see how things will turn out I might even get you that camera you're always talking about." Kae's reply demoralised me though am still grateful. 

"You just can't leave me like that, what will I do about Oscar? what if I mess up again? I might lose him this time." I replied looking worried like Kae was going to war. 

"That's why I got you this ring baby girl. It is to remind you about the engagement plan you want, and obviously its going to bother Oscar, giving him more reason to want to engage you." Kae said confidently like she already saw it happen.

"Oh, I hope so." I replied with little hope and disbelief evident on my face. 

"Don't give me that sad look, Cheer up baby girl, you will be alright. I know you, you won't mess up this time." Kae said pouring some drink in my cup. 

"So how long will you be gone?" I asked pulling my filled cup close. "About a months or two at most... am sure you'll be fine. How about we make a bet, if you mess up again and Oscar catches you, then I will take the blame. I'll tell him am the reason why you moved out and that it was my plan. and if you make it. Then when am back, you'll take me out for drinks.What do say, are you in?" Kae made a bargain. 

"Okay, am in" I replied after taking a sip.

"And one more thing baby girl. I want you to write a description of the person you want to be. And constantly work towards being that person, use the ring as a reminder to yourself. Set standards for yourself baby girl, Oscar won't give you what you want when you yourself are not putting any effort and sacrificing for it. Start thinking and living like a fiancée to be and Oscar will start seeing you like that." Kae gave me her last piece of advice before we changed the topic. 

"Oh I will do so. " I replied looking at the ring on my finger. After that day, Kae and I didn't spend much time together till she went to her workshop.

..................      3 months later (back to present) ........

Kate's plan was good, its made sense it was going well. I made a mistake giving in to Oscar's temptation, I blame it on my feelings. "I shouldn't have kissed him back. Am so dumb." I say as I drown myself in regret. 

I kept quiet for a while and I heard Oscar move from the door. That felt a little bit relieving but still I have to get out of this room with a logical explanation for the way I had reacted. 

"Baeb, am leaving, am going to meet the investors. Please don't leave, I will be back as soon as am done with the meeting." Oscar says by the door before going out. His words awaken me from reminiscing on how all this drama started.

I remained in the bathroom for some minutes waiting for Oscar to leave the house. I heard the front door close, Oscar is out. I slowly open the door walking to the bed. I through myself on the bed staring at the sealing I let out a sigh. 

"What will I tell Oscar? I don't want to make Oscar and Kae fight over me again." I say to myself trying to figure out how I can resolve things without getting Kae in trouble. 

Kae told me to start thinking and living as I visualize my ideal version of a fiancée. I wrote a bunch of principles that became part of my attitude and standards. And abstaining from s*x was one of my principles, I had decided to abstain until Oscar shows me that he is willing to marry me.

"I have to talk to Kae, she has to help me out of this." I say to myself as I look for my phone to call her. I finally find my phone in the kitchen. 

I reach for the fridge to get the bucket of chocolate ice cream after dialing Kae's line. My stress takes me into stress eating. I get a big spoon to help me empty the bucket. 

Kae hasn't yet picked up, I dial again as I walk to the living room. Kae didn't pick up my call for the second time, which made me panic and eat more. I text Kae to call me as soon as she sees my text.

I down the bucket and Kae hasn't called yet, it starts to freak me out. I am so disturbed I can't continue processing my client's photos. Oscar's apartment starts to feel empty and suffocating, I walk up and down in it trying to calm down. 

I leave voice mails for Kate as I walk to and for in the living. Ten minutes passes and it feels like an hour in seconds, anxiety pressuring me to find a explanation before Oscar comes back. Walking up and down clearly didn't help, so I thought of taking some liquor to help me calm down. 

One sip led to me drinking the whole bottle of amarula. It helped me calm down by making me drunk. I start talking to myself like members of a board meeting arguing. 

"Oscar is not serious about marrying you, all he wants is to have sex." One drunk voice made an extreme statement."When he comes back I'll tell him to buy me a ring if he wants s*x. Am not like those girlfriends that are comfortable with their boyfriend drilling them without showing any interest in marriage. Am a lady with standards not a lonely, horny girlfriend." The voice of my ideal fiancée said."Let me even call him" my ideal fiancée said while moving me to pick up my phone and make the call.

"Screw it, Oscar is my man and am his girlfriend. When he comes back am giving him a good ride that will make him wanna put a ring on it." Geli gave her wild opinion. 

Some minutes later I fall asleep without deciding  what I'll tell Oscar when he gets back....
