First Impressions

Several days had passed and Jenna had kept to the West wing and the main part of the house, trying to avoid the east wing at all cost, which wasn’t difficult because everything that she needed essentially was in the west wing and the main part of the house. She continued to do her own thing as she had always done. But when she came down to grab a snack later that night after Ms. Kessler had went back to her little house on the property for the night she walked into he kitchen to find the bleach blond woman she had seen leaving before standing in the kitchen with an arm full of chips and soda. She looked more like she was robbing the place than grabbing a quick snack, which was what Jenna assumed she was doing. Veronica stopped in her tracks and just started at Jenna for a long minute. Then she started to walk towards the door, but Jenna remembered that her father had told her that she needed to be welcoming and respectful. She decided that she should introduce herself because otherwise she thought it would be rude. So, she turned towards Veronica and said “Hi, I’m Jenna. You must be Veronica. It is nice to meet you.”  Veronica spun around on her heels faster than Jenna had expected and caused Jenna to take a quick step back so that there would be a reasonable amount of space between them. Jenna couldn’t help but wonder if this woman understood anything about personal space, but she pushed the thought aside and tried to quickly put the smile back on her face. She thought she had successfully pulled it off when Veronica took a step closer to her closing the distance that Jenna had tried to put between them. Nope, she definitely didn’t understand personal space Jenna thought. Veronica said “I know who you are, and I don’t care to become friends. I am just waiting for you to be shipped back off to boarding school where you belong. We are his family now, which makes you obsolete. “And with that she spun around just as fast as she had the first time and stormed out of the kitchen and back to the east wing. Jenna was stunned at first and couldn’t get a rational thought to form in her head. She wasn’t sure how long she stood there with her mouth gapping open. She wasn’t quite sure what to do. She knew she couldn’t tell her father and then she wondered if it would even matter if he did know. Did he see them as his new family and not her? Jenna’s eyes stung with the tears that the thought brought about. Surely, that couldn’t be true could it?                 After deciding that she didn’t really want a snack anymore she returned to her room and at first, she felt sad, then numb, and the angry. She couldn’t believe that Veronica had treated her that was when she had been respectful to her. Wasn’t respect a two way street? She guessed Veronica didn’t see it that was. Even if she really felt that way it seems she could have put her best face forward and tried to be civil. But she hadn’t and that meant that Jenna would just have to take things for what they were. She wasn’t sure why the rejection had ever bothered her at all, after all, she hadn’t wanted anything to do with them either. She intended to go back to her original plan and keep her distance so things wouldn’t get out of hand. She decided that was the only way that she would be able to obey her father. After that she had seen Veronica freely wandering here and there in the house and on the grounds. She had been out by the pool and had been in the home gym. Jenna tried to avoid the areas where she knew she was after all she only had to get through a couple of weeks before she would go back to boarding school. She could help but wonder if this would all mean that she would no longer be coming home on breaks. She knew that there had been times at Lindsey and Sienna had went home for break as their parents weren’t there. They had alleged to be out of town on business, but the girls had told her that they wouldn’t be surprised if they were just off on a vacation somewhere as they typically didn’t bring them along on vacation. She had also had her father’s men chauffeur her around so she could go on a shopping trip. She sure didn’t mind spending her father’s money. She came back with numerous bags full of stuff. Jenna couldn’t help but notice that Vinny was never with Veronica. She assumed her father had hired a nanny to care for him. Jenna still thought that Veronica looked like a cheap hooker and wasn’t sure what her father saw in her, but she guessed that wasn’t any of her business.                 That evening Ms. Kessler had come to Jenna’s room and told her that she would let her know when dinner was ready, and she also gave her the heads up that she would be joining her father and Veronica for dinner. That made Jenna not want dinner, but she knew she had no choice since her father had said she needed to be there. She decided to make the best of a bad situation and just try to be respectful as her father had asked her. If Veronica was awful to her then her father would be there to see it for himself. Although Jenna still was unsure as to what his stance on the whole thing would be. Would he side with Veronica just because she was his wife, and that may even more likely if her father felt the same way about her that Veronica did. Jenna tried to push the thought aside and allow herself to be happy about having her father join her for dinner. After all, that was a very rare occasion. She hoped that her father would be happy to see her as well. Jenna went down as soon as Ms. Kessler let her know it was ready. Jenna went to the formal dinning room as she was directed, and she took a seat, but she wasn’t sure what to expect or what to do. She wasn’t even sure where she should sit. But she had chosen to take the seat across from Veronica, and beside her father, who was sitting at the head of the table as he always did. She felt relief when he smiled at her when she sat down. He reached over and squeezed her hand, and then grabbed Veronica’s with his other hand and said, “It makes me happy to have my two best girls at my side”. Jenna and Veronica locked eyes at that statement. They went through dinner with very little conversation, but when her father had struck one up, she tried to be polite and she even tried to include Veronica, as she knew it made her father happy. Her father’s happiness was more important to her than holding a petty grudge for the way that Veronica had treated her. Veronica had spoken a lot but then when she did, she was overly friendly towards Jenna. She had hoped at first that Veronica had maybe changed her mind about her, but she could tell by the way that she was laying it on thick it was an act. That let Jenna know that this was going to be a rough situation.
