I didn’t know how long I had slept, but I could still feel the warmth of his body against my skin.
He hadn’t left.
Somehow, that made me feel safer than I wanted to admit.
Before I could even react, the bedroom door swung open.
Leo stood in the doorway with my mom and dad behind him.
They all looked frightened and confused, almost as if they had been searching for me for hours.
Then everything changed.
Their eyes landed on me.
I was lying in bed, wrapped in the arms of the biggest man I had ever seen.
My mother’s mouth fell open.
Then, slowly, a smile appeared on her face.
She looked shocked—but there was something else in her eyes.
My dad looked completely confused.
Then recognition flashed across his face as he stared at the man beside me.
Leo looked furious.
Absolutely furious.
His face turned red with anger as he stared at the man holding me.
“BELLA! WHO IS THIS MAN, AND WHY IS HE HOLDING MY GIRLFRIEND?!”
His voice echoed through the bedroom.
He stormed toward the bed, every heavy step making the floor seem to tremble.
“Who do you think you are?! Holding my woman?! And you, Bella—how could you?!”
He shouted at the enormous man beside me.
The stranger slowly lifted his head.
His eyes had changed.
The warmth I had seen only moments ago was gone.
In its place was something dark.
Dangerous.
Protective.
“I’m her fated mate.”
His deep voice filled the room.
“And you should be very careful how you speak to my mate.”
His arm tightened around me.
He pulled me closer against his chest, almost as if he wanted to shield my entire body from Leo.
I could feel his wolf beneath his skin.
It was awake.
And it was furious.
Leo took another step toward the bed.
“One more step, and I’ll break every bone in your body.”
Leo froze.
“She’s my girlfriend. She chose to bond with me.”
His voice shook slightly.
He took another step.
That was all it took.
Before I could even react, my mate was out of bed.
One second he had been beside me.
The next, he was standing directly in front of Leo.
The difference between them was almost ridiculous.
Leo looked small compared to him.
My dad stared at the two men, then looked at me.
Confusion filled his face.
He looked back at my mate.
Then at Leo.
Then back at me.
They all knew how much I had loved Leo.
So how could this have happened?
“Bella…”
My mom finally tried to speak.
But nobody seemed to know what to say.
My mate’s voice broke the silence.
“Leave. Now.”
His eyes never left Leo.
“I will never see another man holding my woman again.”
Leo’s fists clenched.
“You will never touch her again, you don’t deserve her.”
The words came out of my mate’s mouth like a warning.
Dark.
Possessive.
Protective.
And somehow, even though I still didn’t know his name, hearing him defend me made my heart race.
Leo stepped forward again.
Then his arm moved.
He was going to hit my mate.
My wolf exploded with rage.
Stormy wanted to protect her mate.
Before I could even think, she took control.
I transformed.
Stormy leaped from the bed and landed between Leo and my mate, her pure-white fur glowing beneath the bedroom lights.
The room went quiet
Stormy growl at Leo
Leo stumbled backward.
Three steps.
His face went completely pale.
My mom stared at Stormy with tears filling her eyes.
“Bella…”
Her voice broke.
“Your wolf, sweetheart…”
She covered her mouth.
“You have your wolf!”
My dad stared at Stormy in disbelief.
Then a huge smile spread across his face.
“Pure white…”
His voice was barely a whisper.
“Just like your grandfather said the day you were born.”
Leo stared at Stormy as if he had seen a ghost.
“How do you have a wolf?!”
He took another step back.
Before he could say anything else, Stormy shifted back into my human form.
I stood there, breathing heavily, my heart pounding.
I looked directly at Leo.
“Don’t you dare say another word about my mate or me.”
My voice echoed through the room.
His expression changed.
“Bella…”
“You beat me to the punch.”
I took a step toward him.
“You cheated on me.”
His eyes widened.
“I didn’t—”
“I saw you.”
His face went pale.
“You were with another woman in the garden.”
He opened his mouth.
No words came out.
I raised my hand.
Slap.
The sound echoed through the entire bedroom.
Leo’s head snapped to the side.
Everyone went silent.
I lowered my hand slowly.
For the first time in my life, I didn’t feel like the weak, wolfless girl everyone had to protect.
I looked at Leo.
Then at the man standing behind me.
My mate.
And somehow, I knew everything had just changed.
