Chapter 1 ~ s. 9

I moved closer. One step. Then another. Every meter between us seemed to disappear beneath my feet, and with every step, the heat in the room climbed higher. Twenty degrees. Maybe more. Or maybe it was simply him. His presence. His scent. The way his ocean-blue eyes followed my every movement as though I were the only thing in the world worth looking at. “I know you won’t hurt me.” My voice came out softer than I intended. His jaw tightened. Something dark flickered behind his eyes, but he didn’t move toward me. He waited. That somehow made my heart beat even faster. My eyes remained locked with his. Step by step, I tried to understand what I wanted. What my heart wanted. What Stormy wanted. The answer was terrifyingly simple. Him. I wanted him. I stopped directly in front of him. My beautiful mate. He was so close now that I could feel the warmth radiating from his body. I had to tilt my head back slightly just to meet his gaze. “Tell me what you want.” His voice was low and steady. Deep. The sound wrapped around me like a warning. I swallowed. “I want…” My courage almost disappeared. Almost. Then I remembered the way he had looked at me. The way he had made me feel safe even when every instinct inside me screamed that I was standing far too close to something powerful. My hand slowly lifted. My fingertips brushed his stomach before settling against the hard planes of his abdomen. His breathing changed. Barely. But I noticed. Of course I noticed. A tiny smile tugged at the corner of my lips. Maybe I wasn’t the only one affected by this. I rose onto my toes. For one heartbeat, neither of us moved. Our lips were barely touching. A breath separated us. Then my lips brushed against his. Soft. Tentative. Almost innocent. “I want you to kiss me,” I whispered. His eyes darkened. “And I want you to claim me.” That was all it took. His restraint snapped. His lips crashed against mine, stealing the breath from my lungs. The kiss was nothing like the gentle brush I had imagined. It was hungry. Deep. Desperate. Like he had been holding himself back for far too long. My fingers curled into his shirt as I pulled him closer. His arms wrapped around me, strong and secure, and suddenly I forgot how to think. All I could feel was him. His warmth. His heartbeat. His lips against mine. When he finally pulled back, we were both breathing harder. His forehead rested against mine. “You have no idea what you do to me,” he murmured. The words sent a shiver through me. “Maybe I want to know.” His eyes searched mine. “You’re playing with fire.” “Maybe I’m tired of being afraid of it.” For a moment, he simply stared at me. Then his hand slid to my waist. His touch was firm, possessive, but careful. As though he was reminding himself that I was something precious. Something that could be broken. His gaze dropped to my lips. “Tell me to stop.” I shook my head. “Don’t.” That single word changed something in his expression. His arms tightened around me, and he lifted me effortlessly. A surprised gasp escaped me. My arms immediately went around his shoulders, my legs instinctively wrapping around his waist. “God…” I buried my face against his neck for a second, trying to calm my racing heart. It was impossible. His scent surrounded me. Strong. Warm. Wild. Stormy practically exploded inside my chest. Pure happiness. Pure excitement. She knew. She had always known. He was ours. My fingers tightened against his shoulders. He turned his head, his lips brushing the sensitive skin beneath my ear. “Do you really want me to claim you right here?” His voice had changed. It was deeper now. Rougher. Every word seemed to vibrate through my body. I lifted my head and looked into his eyes. There was something almost dangerous in them. But beneath it was something else. Trust. Want. Restraint. I reached up and touched his cheek. “If you don’t want me,” I whispered, “then don’t.” His eyes narrowed. “But if you do…” My heart hammered. I leaned closer until our foreheads touched again. “Then choose me.” His expression softened for half a second. Then his arms tightened around me. “You have no idea how long I’ve been wanting to clame you.” My breath caught. His words slapped me in the face “What?” His thumb slowly traced my cheek. “Every time I say you, every dinner, every Galla in a long beautiful dress, I walked away. I didn’t know you was my mate but your beautiful body and a face made for a god made me want to throw you over my shoulder and walk away" His eyes held mine. “Every time I forced myself not to touch you. Not to steal you" Another shiver ran through me. “I thought you didn’t want me. You never looked at me” A faint, almost humorless smile appeared on his lips. I don’t understand anything. He never went on any Galla or meeting. “You liked me?” My voice was small and I couldn’t understand what he said “Like doesn’t even come close.” Then he kissed me again. Slower this time. Deeper. Giving me time to feel every second of it. And for the first time, I stopped wondering whether I was making the right choice. I knew. This was my choice. Him. My mate. My heart. My dangerous, beautiful temptation. And when his arms pulled me closer, I knew there was no going back.
