“Did you really think that you could get away from me forever?” Richard asks me in an arch, mocking voice as he walks around and around the chair I’m cuffed to. “Is that what you thought?”
“I was actually kind of hoping you’d die of a heart attack trying to chase me down,” I reply coldly, and his eyes fly open in shock.
I stare back at him defiantly as he stands stock-still and blinks at me. I already know that he’s going to beat me, r**e me, and probably kill me, no matter how sweet I am or how much I plead. We’ve already been down that road.
I figure I might as well die with my pride intact, even if nothing else is.
