I kept close to Georgie at dinner. She sat beside me and seemed off the whole time. I squeezed her hand reassuringly under the table. I didn’t expect her to grasp it so tightly and not let go. I didn’t mind. Not in the slightest really. I was surprised to see her return my gesture and hold onto it.
So I ate the remainder of my dinner with one hand. Balancing the peas on the fork up to my mouth carefully. I heard Georgie giggle at me every now and again as I sighed when food dropped off of my fork and back onto its plate.
Dinner went pretty quickly, especially considering Nathan was pressuring everyone to eat faster so that he could get to the bonfire at a reasonable time.
Soon, we were sitting in the car. Nathan was driving while Georgie and I sat in the backseat together.
