We were sitting in silence in my hospital room. Dad was leaning up against the wall and Nathan was sprawled out across one of the chairs along the edge of the room. I nibbled on one of the cheese sandwiches the nurse had bought me for lunch.
*knock* *knock* *knock*
I glanced around at the men slumped in my room. I couldn’t think of who else would be visiting. I was puzzled.
“Come in!” Dad called out, almost uninterested, as he scrolled through his phone.
The door handle twisted and pushed open. Theo was standing in the doorway. He looked unsure about whether to enter or not. I was not surprised at his hesitation, only a few days ago he was banned from contacting me. Now he is visiting me in hospital as if it is nothing new. I felt numb.
