Chapter 9

Georgie I walked up the path to the front door with nervous butterflies going mad in my stomach. My hands began to sweat. Why can’t I just hold my tongue… I scolded myself. They were trying to plan your life out for you. As if it wasn’t the Goddess’s gifts. Skye sighed. Feeling frustrated. The goddess has plans. They cannot interfere. She mumbled. I placed my hand on the door knob and hesitated. What if I just didn’t go in? I shook my head and pushed the door open. “We’re in the lounge room.” Mum said when she heard the door click closed. I continued slowly into the doorway of the lounge. I stood in the doorway, facing my parents who were sitting on the couch with their bodies facing me. Mum's back was up straight. They meant business. “Please come and sit down, Georgie.” Dad instructed with a serious, gruff voice. I sat on the chair beside the door, prepared to escape at any time. “We need to talk about some things.” Mum said, glancing at Dad and nodding. I found myself wishing for Nathan or Benny to be here as backup. “OK.” I nodded and fold my hands on my lap. “First, your behaviour at the meeting with the elders was unacceptable. They are only trying to help you.” Dad said sternly. I wanted to argue, they weren’t trying to help me, they were trying to help them. “The way you spoke to them was completely out of line.” Mum added. “We are humiliated.” She shook her head. “You need to apologise.” Dad said as he held his head up. “I’m not apologising.” I muttered, twiddling with my fingers. “Pardon?” Dad asked, straightening his back and glaring at me. I could see the fury burning in his eyes. “I am not apologising to the elders. They have no right to think that they can decide who my mate is or who is acceptable!” I was raising my voice now and could reel it in. I knew I would be getting into more trouble but couldn’t stop. “They most certainly do have a right. They are here to help us and direct us!” Dad stood up to look down on me. I stood up and glared up at him. I was not going to allow him to make me feel small. “Did they tell you who you could have as your mate?!” I yelled, staring at Mum. I saw her sigh. She knew I was right. “No, but…” dad began, but I interrupted. “Did they tell you that Mum was acceptable?” I almost growled. “No.” Dad sat down on the couch again. “It is just that with your abilities, we don’t want someone using them for the wrong reasons.” He muttered. “And do you think the goddess would select a mate for me who is going to do that? All my life you have told me to cherish what the goddess gives me but are allowing me to be controlled by the elders.” I continued. Feeling the fury simmer out of me as I got it off of my chest. “You are right on this point, Georgie.” Mum added quietly. “OK, we will tell the elders to relax on this matter.” Dad nodded. “What else then?” I grunted, sitting back down on the chair. “The ball, you need to attend.” Dad stated. “I was going to attend.” I shrugged my shoulders. “And you have to dress up and act like the Alpha's daughter. There will be a lot of Alphas who want to dance with you.” Mum explained. I rolled my eyes. “I know that. But it is only one night, right?” I glanced at both of them. “Yes, we just wanted you to be aware and pre-prepared.” Dad said nervously. He knew I didn’t like feeling like a piece of property for ownership. Or seen as only my abilities and not as a wolf. “Alright. Noted.” I muttered. “On that, I actually got you a dress for the ball. It is on your bed.” Mum smiled. “A dress?” I stuttered. Oh goddess save me… it’s probably bright pink with ruffles. I groaned. Maybe she got help and it won’t be too bad? Skye offered. “Yes! It is wonderful! Not anything I would usually choose but I thought it would be perfect for you!” Mum cheered and clapped. Dad smiled at how excited she was. “Go upstairs and have a look.” Dad grinned. I grimaced before standing up and walking out of the lounge room. I walked down the hall to my bedroom. There, lying on my bed was a deep blue coloured dress. It was a silk material that slid across my hand as I touched it. I picked it up and smirked. Mum was right, it was nothing I would have expected her to choose. I stepped out of my jeans and pulled my shirt over my head. I slipped the silky dress up and slipped my arms into the spaghetti straps and twisted so that it draped on my body properly. I walked over to the mirror and glanced at my reflection. The deep blue colour made my blue eyes even more vibrant. The bust draped delicately so that it highlighted my cleavage respectfully. It had a low back that scooped below my bra line. It’s going to be a no-bra night clearly. I muttered to myself. The skirt dropped to the floor with a split that revealed up my thigh when I moved. It was beautiful. I even felt a little bit bad about being nervous of what Mum chose in the first place. *knock* *knock* *knock* “Come in.” I said, still staring at the reflection of the dress in the mirror. “Oh, Georgie! It is beautiful!” Mum gushed as she raced over to me in the corner of my room. “It was a good choice by you!” I smiled at Mum and she grinned. “It is absolutely perfect for you. Especially with your hair in a loose curly bun with tendrils hanging down and classically elegant makeup.” Mum said as she began holding up my hair to show how it would look off of my shoulders. “Sounds great!” I chuckled. “I had better call Sienna and ask her to come over on Saturday so we can get you ready together!” Mum cheered, running out of the room to get her phone. I groaned. Sienna and Mum fussing over me all day. Great! I rolled my eyes. I slipped the dress off and hung it in my wardrobe safely. I threw my oversized t-shirt on and laid on my bed. My phone buzzed in the pocket of my jeans, still on the floor. Sienna: Makeover party on Saturday!!!! I laughed and groaned. Me: Please be gentle on me! Haha Sienna: I will do what is necessary!
