CHAPTER 2 {The Future}

1700 Words
The next day. “WAH!” The guard suddenly sat up in bed, waking from sleep. “Sigh! I keep having nightmares like that.” she said to herself, holding and rubbing her head. She looked at the clock beside her and saw it was still early. “Ah—it’s still early. I need to sleep more.” she said to herself and tried to lie back down, but the moment she closed her eyes, a man wearing a magician’s hat, black suit, and smiling as if with evil intent suddenly flashed before her. “WAH!” She sat up in bed again and was blinded by light coming from outside, so she shielded her face with the back of her hand. “Huh—it’s morning already. How did that happen? I feel like I was awake the whole time.” she said to herself and checked the clock again. [8:37 AM] “Ah, my shift at work is starting soon.” she said to herself, quickly getting up, showering, and getting dressed to go to work. When she arrived at CBFMNHS, she went straight to the last classroom where the incident happened and saw yellow tape strung up with the words “Do not Enter, Investigation on going.” Seeing this, she realized everything from the day before was real. After seeing the scene there, she immediately went back to her post by the gate and sat down. “Sigh!!!” She yawned and checked her watch to confirm the time. “It’s 11:00 AM—Grade 11 and 12 students will be arriving soon.” she said to herself. “But where will those students use the classroom if the one at the end is—” “Ah, excuse me, ma’am?” said a young woman to her, tapping her hand. The guard looked at the girl and saw she was wearing the CBFMNHS uniform. The girl looked like a celebrity from head to toe. (She was also the female classmate who had said goodbye to Dion before leaving.) “Did you happen to see a notebook on the teacher’s table in the last classroom?” The guard was shocked by the girl’s question but remained calm. “Ah, wait a minute—is this what you’re looking for?” she asked, quickly taking the notebook from her bag. “Yes, ma’am—that’s it! Where did you find it?” “Ah, I found it in the girls’ restroom—I thought I’d keep it in case someone was looking for it.” “Is that so? Thank you, ma’am.” the girl said and took the notebook from the guard’s hand. She was about to leave when the guard suddenly stopped her. “Wait!” the guard said loudly to the girl. The girl stopped and looked back at her. “Where did you get that?” There was a 10-second pause before the girl smiled and replied. “My father gave it to me.” She paused again for five seconds. “O-Oh, okay—take care.” the guard said to the girl as she left for the classroom near the canteen, with boys from the school staring at her. The guard watched the girl until she entered the classroom. Before going in, the girl looked back at the guard and smiled. July 3, 2025. [6:10 PM] “The students are leaving again.” the guard said to herself. “Okay Sherryl, we’re off!” said the girl’s classmates to her as they waved goodbye while exiting the school gate. After her classmates left, the guard stopped her from going out. “Wait a minute!” the guard said to her. “So your name is Sherryl?” she asked the girl. “Yes, ma’am.” she replied, looking like she was about to leave again. “Wait!” the guard said, stopping her a bit shyly. “D-Do you know what that notebook can do?” she asked Sherryl. “How did you know?” she replied, and they sat down across from each other on separate chairs. “Did your father really give it to you?” the guard asked seriously. “The truth is—I just found it next to me when I woke up one morning.” she said sadly. “And then?” the guard asked. “Come on, ma’am—I’ll take you to my house and tell you everything there.” the girl said happily, holding her hand. “H-Huh! Won’t your parents get angry?” The girl paused briefly. “Don’t worry—no one will get angry at you.” she replied with a smile that seemed forced. Seeing the girl’s reaction, the guard just went along with it. [7:23 PM] They arrived at the girl’s house. The girl’s house was large and elegant, as she lived in Filinvest. “Please don’t get mad when I open the door, okay!” the girl said anxiously to the guard, unlocking the door and going inside. She turned on the lights and invited the guard in. “Come in, ma’am—please come inside.” she said with a smile. When the guard entered the hallway, she didn’t know whether to feel sorry or annoyed at the girl—because the house was extremely messy. As soon as she walked in, there was a pile of mixed trash: paper, plastic snack wrappers, biscuit boxes, and more. “Come on—follow me.” the girl said, opening the door to the living room. “Ugh! What’s that bad smell?” the guard asked as she entered the living room, covering her nose. “Ah, that’s nothing.” she replied. But when the guard entered the living room, she noticed the sink was nearby—and from afar, she could see a pile of dirty dishes being crawled over by cockroaches. “Sit down.” the girl said, pointing to the sofa. “What would you like—coffee or tea?” she asked the guard, who was still covering her nose. “Anything as long as it’s clean.” “Pardon?” the girl replied quickly. “Ah, coffee then.” “Aye-aye captain!” the girl said cheerfully and went to the kitchen to prepare the coffee. “So she really has no parents.” the guard said sadly to herself and took a face mask from her bag. “Good thing I always carry this.” she said to herself and put it on right away. A short time later, the girl arrived carrying two steaming cups. The guard also noticed the notebook was tucked between her armpits. “Here you go, ma’am.” the girl said, setting down what she was holding. The guard looked at them and saw they were different colors—one brown, one white. “What’s that one you have?” the guard asked the girl, pointing to the cup with white liquid. “Ah, that’s milk—I don’t drink coffee, only my parents liked it.” she replied with a smile and sat down across from the guard. The girl took a sip, then took the notebook tucked under her arm and set it on the table between them. After that, she asked the guard seriously. “What did you notice about what the notebook can do?” she asked her. The guard told the girl everything she had witnessed. “So the notebook is connected to Dion’s death?” the girl asked the guard. She just nodded in agreement. “I have one thing I’m wondering about.” the guard said. “What is it?” she replied. “Why do the deaths of the child and Dion have times listed, but the past events don’t?” When she asked this, the girl took the notebook from the table. “This notebook can predict the future, as you saw. But it only lists times when events are about to happen—and after 24 hours, the time disappears again. In short…” she opened the notebook to the page with the past incident. “There’s no time listed there anymore.” she said, turning the notebook to the guard. The guard checked her watch. [8:56 PM] “You’re right—the time for the girl’s incident is gone.” she said in surprise. “And look here.” the girl said, pointing to Dion’s incident. “Because the time just changed from 8:56 PM to 8:57 PM, the time for Dion’s incident will disappear too.” she said. Just as the time changed from 8:56 PM to 8:57 PM—and in the blink of an eye—the time written on that part of the paper vanished instantly. “How did that happen so fast?” the guard said, unable to believe what she saw. The girl didn’t answer—she turned the notebook to herself and looked for a page. “I’ll show you something terrifying.” she said, moving to sit next to the guard. After sitting down, she showed her the notebook pages from 2026 to 2037. “And as you can see—there’s nothing written here at all, right?” she said. “What does that mean?” the guard asked quickly. “This notebook only writes itself when terrifying events are about to happen. Which means—no accidents will occur anywhere in the world during those coming years.” she explained. “Oh, that’s good then.” the guard replied. “But.” the girl said quickly, flipping to the next page. “Read this.” she ordered seriously. When the guard looked, she saw something written there and read it right away. Actual Writing: ☠️HUMANITY WILL PERISH☠️ September 17, 2038. A huge meteor will strike the Philippines. It will be 6 miles (10 kilometers) in size. It will cause massive destruction across the world, along with extremely powerful tsunamis. ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️ After reading this, the guard stared blankly and suddenly felt chills. “Is this real?!” she asked the girl, a bit panicked. “We’ll find out in 2038.” the girl replied jokingly.
