Chapter Two: Threads of Fate

286 Words
Determined to change her fate, Arelia began to dig into the hidden corners of the academy. She uncovered whispers of a secret order—mages who believed in controlling destiny itself. And at the center of it all… was Kael. Not as a willing member. But as their weapon. One night, she followed him beyond the academy walls, into the ancient forest where magic grew wild and untamed. She watched as he confronted a cloaked figure. “You said this would end,” Kael growled. “You said I’d be free after this.” “After her,” the figure replied. “The girl who bends magic unnaturally. She threatens everything.” Arelia’s breath caught. They meant her. “And if I refuse?” Kael asked. A pause. “Then we remind you what happens to those you love.” Kael’s fists clenched. Arelia stepped forward before she could stop herself. “You don’t have to do this.” Both turned, startled. Kael’s eyes widened. “Arelia… you shouldn’t be here.” “I know everything,” she said softly. “About them. About you. About what happens if we don’t change it.” The cloaked figure laughed. “How interesting. Perhaps we underestimated you.” Magic flared in the air—dark and suffocating. Kael moved instantly, stepping in front of Arelia. “Run.” But she didn’t. Instead, she reached for his hand. “Trust me.” For a moment, the world held its breath. Then something shifted. A spark—bright and undeniable—passed between them. Memories flickered in Kael’s eyes: rain, blood, her falling. “You…” he whispered. “You died.” Arelia nodded. “And I came back.”
