Chapter 11

Chapter 11 Chris’s POV I got home that evening, fully regretting not having dinner with Rebecca. Kira was having a bath in her room so I decided to make some dinner, popping a pizza in the oved and preparing some salad, knowing Kira would moan about the carbs in the pizza. When she finished, she came out of her room, fully made up with make-up as usual and with skimpy pyjamas on. She looked so uncomfortable. “Ive made pizza and salad.” I said to her, setting the table. “Thanks, are we eating together tonight? I thought you were going with Rebecca.” I shook my head. “No, you were right. I wont neglect you for her as long as you understand that Friday nights will still be me, Michael and Rebecca's night to decompress from the week.” She bit her lip but didn’t say anything else. Rebeccas POV It was the end of the week, and I must admit I had loved every minute of it. Michael really wasn’t so bad to work for. Sure, he had his quirks, but they were the usual ones I had dealt with for years. He was actually fairly laid back when it came to being demanding or overbearing. I had also managed to elicit a smile or two from him which was a win. He had also agreed to join us again tonight which in itself was a huge win. Michael often came out with us, and I saw him regularly enough, but nights out were usually a once-a-month opportunity. He didn’t like to drink, and he was always uncomfortable around crowds, but he would loosen up after a few drinks and at least keep me company on the dance floor if Chris was busy. He would also listen to my drunken ramblings. I got ready for the night, wearing a sparkly blue top, tight jeans and blue heels. I left my hair loose and put a few curls into it. I liked the way my hair felt on my shoulders when I danced. I headed to our usual bar for around 7 and was greeted by a smiling Chris who was waving and a stoic, as usual, Michael. They had already ordered drinks and I happily slipped between them onto a chair. They carried on their conversation as I sipped my cherry alcohol drink. “It’s been a week; she should have gotten it by now.” Michael growled. Chris wasn’t making eye contact with him, but I could see he was annoyed. “She is, she’s just not done any designing yet. Get off her case.” “No, you need to get on her case more. Even if they’re terrible she needs to be doing something besides prancing around the building making friends.” I raised an eyebrow. I knew they were talking about Kira. She had been chatting to me every lunch time this week and I was getting annoyed by her. Janine must have told her I designed too as she kept asking me about my designs, wanting to see them. But she was doing that with everyone, so I assumed she was just trying to get inspiration. “She seems to be trying to get inspiration.” I said, hoping to nip the argument in the bud. “Inspiration doesn’t come from others…” Michael growled, grinding his teeth, but I could tell he would drop the subject. “You wouldn’t know about others though would you.” Chris snarked. “Hey!” I hissed at Chris. “Low blow dude. Michael has us to get inspiration from.” Chris looked at me hard and then snorted. Michael was glaring at him, but I could see in his cool grey eyes that he was hurt by what Chris said. I looked at them both and jumped up, running to the bar to order a few shots. They had clearly had a rough week. “SHOTS!” I shouted as I put 6 on the table, two each. “Clearly you’ve both had a rough week!” Michael rolled his eyes but took the shots and downed them before me or Chris could. “Thanks Becca. It has been rough.” “Yeah, I wonder why…” Michael said under his breath. Chris didn’t seem to hear him, but I had, and I assumed he meant because of Kira. “And why, pray tell, has yours been rough? I’m pretty sure youre new PA has been freaking awesome all weeks!” I raised a shot glass, giving Michael my spare one. “To your new PA!” Chris laughed out loud and linked my glass. Michael’s expression seemed to soften. “Yeah, she’s made my week bearable and…” He coughed as if he was going to say something but quickly clinked my glass and we all downed our shots. “Well, my new boss has been an absolute killer. He makes me do things Ive never done before.” I pretended to faint, and Chris raised an eyebrow. “He makes me use particular milk in his coffee and his paperwork has to be colour coded. Hes like a demon.” I giggled, playfully wiggling my eyebrows at Michael. He looked at me deadpan, but I could swear I saw his lip twitch. “I’m sure your new boss will actually become a demon if he hears you bad mouth him once more.” He said, turning back to his glass of wine. I laughed and finished my cherry drink in one. “So, are we staying here all night or actually clubbing tonight?” I asked as Chris started rubbing his temple. “I’m down to party. Michael?” He asked, eyeing him suspiciously. Before Michael could answer though, Chris’s phone began ringing. I looked at him and he mouthed ‘work’ before excusing himself. Michael's POV Yet again, I knew he wasn’t working. I could see in his furrowed brows that it was Kira. He had told me this week that she had been nagging him to share a room finally, but Chris wasn’t ready to sleep with her, still holding out for Rebecca I assumed but I doubted either of them would upheave their lives, taking a back seat again. Chris would never upset father either. Kira didn’t trust Chris around Rebecca and with good reason. Even though they had never done anything since Kira came into the picture. I knew both of them wanted to. To me that was emotional cheating and even though I couldn’t stand Kira I understood how she felt. Chris needed to either stop things with Kira or flat out reject Rebecca and put everything into Kira. I wasn’t one to talk about talking about my feelings but even I could see how this mess might end, with Rebecca heartbroken or with the merge of our companies falling through. Not that I cared about the merge with Kiras father. We were holding well on our own and held the top selling spots in most of the bridal suites in the city. I saw Chris come back from his quick call and then we made the decision to move onto the next bar.
