Chapter 6
Rebeccas POV
Monday morning, and the first day of being Michael’s PA. I must admit, I wasn’t excited for this but at least it was a foot in the door. My only hope was that eventually there would be an opening in either twin’s design department. I got dressed into a black dress that cut off at the knees, black sheer tights, and black heels with a pinstriped cream blazer and I headed up to Michael’s office.
“Good Morning Rebecca!” I heard Jeanie call from her desk. She would be teaching me the job for the next week, but I was pretty sure I knew most of it. I’d spent years with Michael and knew all of his quirks. He hated being touched and everything needed to be squeaky clean. He liked everything alphabetical, and colour coded. He liked to be briefed on everything first thing so he could plan his day meticulously. I also had spent years visiting both Michael and Chris’ off. I tied my hair into a high bun before I grabbed a coffee. I pulled my car into the underground car park and headed into the building. There was a badge and car pass waiting for me at the reception desk
ice and would often read Chris his emails out loud sometimes when his assistant was on her lunch.
“Morning Jeanie.” I smiled at her and put my bag and coat down on the leather sofa before pulling up a chair by her side. She spent the morning showing me the email system that I already knew and then started going through the filing system. She knew I had grown up with Michael and Chris so didn’t go through their history but kept quizzing me throughout the morning on how Michael liked his coffee or what food he would prefer for lunch.
When lunch finally came around, I grabbed my bag and headed to the staff cafeteria. I knew neither of the twin’s ate here but it would be interesting to meet some of the other staff. I entered and grabbed a sandwich, fruit, and a coke before wishing I had just stayed in the office.
“Rebecca!” The annoying voice or Kira shouted to me; she was waving me over to join her on her table. She was sitting with another woman who I had seen around Chris’s office but never spoke to. I sighed before putting a smile on my face.
“Hey Kira.” I said, sitting down at the table. “And? Sorry I don’t think we’ve met.” I said to the small, dark-haired girl I had seen with her last week.
“I’m Janine.” She said, quietly.
“She works on Chris’s campaign; She has been ever so sweet and is showing me the ropes all week.” Kira answered for her.
“Well, its lovely to meet you, Janine.” I smiled at her, and she nodded before going back to eating her soup.
“So, how’s the first day working for Mr bore master?” Kira said, putting her chin into her hands. I looked at her curiously. Bore master? Michael was a stickler for rules, but he was anything from boring.
“If you mean Michael, then great, I know most of my job already and Jeanie is excited to maybe finish her notice a little earlier than the end of the week.” I answered, shrugging my shoulders and tucking into my sandwich. “How about you?”
“It’s amazing! Ive trained for a lot of things, but I never thought about designing. It’s so much fun!” Kira squealed, clapping her hands together at every other word. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. “I’m so sorry that you didn’t get the job Rebecca, Chris told me how much you wanted it, but I needed this job. I need to find something I’m passionate about and also be near to my Chris.” I smiled and nodded.
“Honestly, its fine. I’ll just wait for another opening.”
“Well, I hear there might be one eventually on Michael’s team. Chris is mainly necklaces and earrings, but I know they’re wanting to expand into other things such as bags and shoes soon.” This caught my attention. I had hoped they would but neither Chris nor Michael had actually confirmed it.
“And Michael will be heading up that department?” I asked, still looking at my food, not wanting to seem over eager. Kira started laughing.
“I thought you would already know, being so close to the boys. Yeah, it will be Michaels department.” Kira said, taking sips of her water before grabbing her bag and putting it inside it. “Right Janine, I’m going to harass our boss, see you after lunch.” And without saying bye to me she got up and headed out. I sighed heavily and Janine chuckled.
“Sorry!” I said, rubbing my temples.
“It’s ok, she’s a lot, but she is actually quite nice.” Janine said, smiling shyly. I could only nod. Janine was right, Kira wasn’t a bad person, just incredibly spoiled and annoying, and there must be more to her if Chris truly liked her.
Michaels POV
3 hours of my shift left. I had never been one to finish on time, but today I needed to get out of the office.
“Mr Reeves?” I heard Rebeccas voice as she knocked on my door and poked her head through. Oh god. “Everything ok?” She asked as she walked to my desk with more paperwork and yet another drink, although this time it wasn’t my usual coffee, it was a smoothie. I raised my eyebrows at her.
“Not coffee?” I asked, mildly amused she would try something different on her first day.
“Nope.” She said, popping her p and smiling before putting the smoothie down. “You clearly have headache and I know you love your healthy drinks, so I popped to the juice bar down the road and got you the watermelon cooler I know you like. It will hydrate you and hopefully help with the headache.” She smiled and I must admit I had to stop myself from looking at her like she had just blown up.
“How did you know I had headache?”
“The last few times I’ve been in, you’ve been either rubbing your temples or forehead. You look tired and concerned and the Michael I know is never concerned or rubs his temples.” She smiled again and turned to leave.
“Becks?” I said to stop her leaving.
“Hmm?” She answered, turning back to me, her smile still there but not quite reaching her eyes.
“How are you getting on? Do you want a ride home after work?” I asked, even shocking myself. The smile left her face, but she quickly recovered it.
“No, I drove here this morning and have my parking pass already but thank you! And I think I pretty much already know most of it. Growing up around you to has certainly helped ready me for this position.” She chuckled. I nodded at her but couldn’t smile. She seemed sad and I wondered if it was because of what happened Friday night. I didn’t know what had actually happened, but I knew she wasn’t happy with how the night ended.
“Ok, well thanks for everything today and I’ll make sure I drink all of this.” I grabbed a napkin and wiped the outside of the cup before picking it up and pouring it into one of my own cups. I saw her smile again and she left my office. She knew me so well, having her as my assistant was not going to be easy.
