Chapter 26 Rebecca's POV I was styling my hair in the spare room, sat in front of a full-length wall mirror. I was only in my underwear, and I could see the love bite on my collar bone. I stroked it and sighed; it was good to finally have it out in the open that we cared for each other so much. I curled my hair and pinned it half up and down. I applied a bit of mascara and eyeliner, some glitter on my lids and a pale pink lipstick. When I had finished and tidied up, I heard the shower stop in Michael’s room, so I got my dress out of its hanging bag and put it on, worried that if he saw me in my underwear, we might not make it to the award ceremony. Although, on second thoughts I wouldn’t mind that. Chuckling I put the dress on. It was a long, high necked, low backed, dark blue dress. I couldn’t quite get the zip up at the back so I exited the room hoping Michael would do it. He was actually in the kitchen in his trousers and his shirt was on, but the shirt was undone so I could see his entire chest and stomach. He didn’t have a bulging 6 pack, but it was still extremely prominent. I could see it clearly and felt myself getting hot again. His blonde hair was wet and swept back from his forehead. He usually had it gelled back in place. It wasn’t long by any means but long enough to be in his eyes if he let it hang normally like Chris did. He was getting glasses for our drinks. I smiled and walked towards him. “Can you zip me up please?” he nodded, and I spun around. He fastened up the zip extremely slowly and when I thought he had done, he moved his hands to my hips and I felt a kiss between my shoulder blades. I shivered in pleasure, wishing again I hadn’t gotten dressed. “You’re beautiful.” He said. “I don’t think I've ever told you that and I wanted to.” I smiled and turned around to kiss his cheek. “Go get ready, its unusual for the lady to be ready first. I’ll pour us drinks. He came back fully dressed in a dark blue suit, light blue shirt and pink tie. His hair was dried and gelled back in its usual style now and he joined me at the dining table for a drink. I had made us a cocktail and he wasn’t happy I wouldn’t tell him what was in it but drank it none the less. Around 45 minutes later we hailed a taxi and headed to the designer awards. -------- We arrived at the awards at the same time as a lot of people. Michael, who had been holding my hand the entire way here, let go of it as we exited the taxi. We hadn’t spoken about anything yet as it all happened fairly quickly tonight, and I knew he was giving me time. I smiled and we still walked in together. Kira was on the arm of Chris, smiling and chatting to everyone. Chris was smiling too and kept whispering things in her ears. Janine looked wonderful in a pretty gold dress and was chatting to another designer but waved when she saw me. Michael walked over to Chris and Kira, and I followed behind! “You both look wonderful!” Kira gushed at us. “Oh my god! Is that a hickey?!” She screamed, loud enough for groups around us to hear and I glared at her. “What?” Chris asked, looking at me. “Is it?” I was glaring at Kira too much to be red at this point. Butl Michael stepped in front of me and ushered me towards the bar. “If it is, it’s none of our business.” He growled and Kira shut up. I heard a chuckle and assumed it was Chris. Had he realised? I turned to see Kira glaring at us before Chris ushered her away to talk to some other people. “Just ignore her, she’s always going to be jealous of you. Chris will make sure it doesn’t come between you.” I let out a deep breath and smiled at him. He was right. “I know, but there’s no need to be! If I have a hickey and I haven’t seen Chris all week, it’s obvious it wasn’t him.” I sighed, rolling my eyes. Michael looked at me with concerned eyes but didn’t say anything further. Some people were dancing, others were just sat drinking and chatting, but most people were stood in the centre of the room near the stage, waiting for Chris and Micheal to enter the stage. My anticipation was bubbling. I know I shouldn’t be excited as I had only seen a picture on Michael’s phone, but I was sure I was one of the 5 people who had won this year. The music began to quieten, and everyone was moving towards the stage now and quietening down in anticipation. There were probably around 200 people. Michael left me near Janine and, unfortunately, Kira to join Chris. There were multiple screens set up around the hall so the winning designs would be shown on them. “Good evening, everyone! It’s our annual designer awards!” Chris shouted, raising his hands to get everyone excited and they did just that, there were cheering and whistles or laughing from everyone. “This year was an extremely tough year as there were so many great designs, especially with us now branching out into accessories.” Michael said, in his droning voice, but it demanded attention, and everyone was listening intently, even me. “Our first winner…” They went through the first 4 winners, and they were all designers I had seen but never had the pleasure to know. The first was a woman from Chris’s team who had designed a new beautiful jewellery set. The second was another woman from Chris’s team who had designed a beautifully intricate anklet that went halfway up the leg. The third was a gentleman from Michael’s team who had designed some bag styles for both men and women, they weren’t prints like I designed but the actual style, off the shoulder satchels that turned into backpacks if needed. The fourth was another man but from Chris’s team who had designed a new wedding line consisting of a tiara and matching wedding bands in white gold, it was beautiful and intricate. “And finally…” Chris was shouting, all excited whilst Michael stood of to the side. I was sure this was going to be me but then I also realised Kira hadn’t been chosen yet. Chirs was happy so I started chewing the inside of my mouth. Surely, I hadn’t beaten her. “Someone who hasn’t even been with us long but has shown great potential. Miss Kira Leaf.” As Chris called her name, I was shocked and upset and looked at Michael who wasn’t clapping along with everyone else but staring at me with his usual stoic expression. I couldn’t read his eyes as he was too far away, but he looked angry. “Kira has showed promise in designing for the new accessories line as well with her stunning designs for bags, scarves and much more.” As he said it, I saw the TV screen show up her designs and I was stunned.
