Chapter 46

Chapter 46 Chris’s POV I was stood with my arms crossed, leaning against Michael’s desk. I was trying my hardest to keep a disappointed look on my face. “At work? Really?” I said, holding back a smirk. The looks on their faces were unreal. Michael looked like he was going to be sick, his eyes were wide and his hair messy, which actually suited him. It looked more like mine. Rebecca’s bun was slightly askew, and she had loose hairs dangling over her face. Her face was shocked, and she was starting to turn read. “Chris…I…” Michael stuttered, and I burst out laughing, not being able to hold it in anymore. His face immediately turned hard, and Rebecca’s mouth dropped open. She looked at Michael and saw his face then walked towards me and slapped me on the arm. “Ouch! There wasn’t any need for that.” I said, rubbing my arm. “You freaked us both out. Don’t do that again.” Rebecca said, her eyes looking between us. I looked at Michael with a smile and his eyes softened a little. “I’m not bloody father. I don’t care, not like it’s the first-time people have had s*x in these offices.” I saw Rebecca open her mouth to ask then she shook her head, clearly thinking better of knowing. “Why are you here?” Michael asked, moving past us, straightening himself up, tucking his shirt back into his trousers. I knew I had pissed him off and I would absolutely hear about it when Rebecca wasn’t around. But in all honesty, it was nice seeing him cut loose for a change, not finishing work or acting like his life depended on following every rule. I smiled at Rebecca and winked. She looked at me confused. “Honestly, I just wanted to listen to you both have s*x. You know, be a pervert.” Rebecca snickered and then put her hand over her mouth to stifle it. Michael stiffened, and slowly turned around with his eyes narrowed. “Seriously Chris, You break the rules all the time and not once have I given you a hard time about it.” I heard Rebecca cough, remembering all the times he lectured us about breaking the rules, especially in university when we would come home drunk regularly. I didn’t feel like arguing though and just smiled at him. “Ok, ok.” I said holding my hands up in surrender. “I wanted to discuss the project we spoke about earlier but if youre both tired and want to go home then I can come back tomorrow?” I questioned and saw a struggle in Michael’s eyes. He wanted to go home with Rebecca but his desire to finish work was winning. I noticed that Rebecca had also noticed it and she walked to him and put her hand on his arm. “Stay and finish your work and talk to Chris. I drove here this morning anyway, so I’ll go home separately and start cooking.” I saw Michael look at her with a softness in his eyes that I had only seen a few times and I smiled sadly. “Thank you.” He said and leant down to kiss her on the cheek. She stroked his arm and kissed him back before walking out of the office, stopping as she passed me to kiss me on the cheek too and then slapped me again. “I owe you more of those!” he yelled over her shoulder as she closed the door behind her and then began packing her stuff up. Rebecca’s POV I packed up my stuff and looked through the window int Michael’s office and saw that Michael was laying into Chris. I chuckled, he absolutely deserved it, but I also knew Michael was probably overreacting a little. He wasn’t used to breaking the rules and I was absolutely being a bad influence on him. I left the office but instead of heading to Michael’s apartment. I headed to the local library. I wanted to see if I could find any more information on this Oliver guy and I didn’t want the information on my personal tablet or phone, just in case Michael saw it and thought the worst or just in case someone still had access to my tablet. I hired a computer for an hour and started searching. I searched him and found his company overseas; he was incredibly famous. Janine had clearly heard of him and his company Ki. He still designed occasionally for Leaf industries, but they put his name on the design which suggested he would still be on their payroll. I found his social media page and began scrolling through it. He was only a few years older than us; he would be 28 now. I wonder if he was some sort of long-lost cousin, or it was a massive coincidence that he looked extremely similar to the twins. It was then that I came across a post from Kira on his account. They must have become friends because of him working at her father’s company. The post read: Can’t wait for you to return here! Missed you so much. Wait… he was coming back here? Was he coming back to work at her father’s company again. Kira seemed to know a lot about him, but it wasn’t exactly like I could ask her… but maybe Chris could. I mulled it over and over, scrolling mindlessly through Olivers social media accounts when something caught my eye. A picture of what seemed to be a family gathering from when he was around 13 years old. The woman sat in the background was… “Jeanie?” I said out loud, gasping. Michael’s POV “Ok, so whilst I don’t think this is the best option, your reasoning is pretty good.” I sighed, not wanting to admit it was a good idea. “I still think it makes us just as bad as her and potentially her family though.” “I know, but we need to find out who’s got this inside information on us, don’t we?” Chris argued. “And it’s clearly something to do with Kira. Nothing happened until she did all of this.” He said, frustrated. I massaged my temples, today was proving to be a bigger headache than I had realised it would be. “I know, I want us all safe and the company too.” I sighed again. “It makes sense but what if shes found out. I don’t think they would hurt her, but it might hurt our reputations… again.” I growled. “I know that… do you have a better idea?” “Not at the minute no… No one I know has been able to track the email or the calls and texts. It’s like they were sent by a ghost.” I finished typing the email I was sending and closed my computer down, I looked at my watch and noticed it was 6.30pm. Rebecca should be home already ad probably have food ready. “I need to go…” “I know… Michael?” He said, still sitting in the chair across from me as I stood and put on my coat. I looked at him, his tone concerned me. “Please don’t tell Becca.” I shook my head, letting him know I wouldn’t. However, before I could get out the door Rebecca had come running back into the office, out of breath and a ridiculously worried look on her face. “Becks?” I questioned, confused. “I… need… to…” She hunched over and held a finger up, catching her breath. I pulled my chair out and she immediately sat down as Chris handed her a bottle of water from my fridge. She took a huge gulp and got her breath back. “I think Jeanie is working with the Leaf’s…” She blurted out.
