Chapter 35
Rebecca's POV
I couldn’t hold back the tears yet again. I had been a blubbering mess tonight and my emotions had been all over. I was exhausted. Looking at the bag with my design on it was amazing but also the fact that the three from my memory were the ones to have them first. I felt bad that Janine didn’t have one, but it felt symbolic that me and the twins had the first ones.
“Thank you so much!” I shouted and hugged Janine. “Please tell me you’re going to make yourself something.”
“Oh, I made scrunchies with the leftover fabric. Theres a few for you in the bag too.” I looked inside the bag and saw them and beamed at her. I then went to hug Chris and he hugged me back tightly.
“I’m sorry for everything Becca.” He whispered in my ear, and I hugged him tighter.
“Me too.” I whispered. The next thing I knew Chris had pulled Michael and Janine into the hug too and I was crushed between all three of them, crying with happiness that everything had finally worked out. We broke apart and Michael took my hand and smiled at me.
“Want to get out of here? Party back at mine?” He asked, looking at Chris and Janine too. They shook their heads though.
“Thanks, but I’m going to hang back and have a few more drinks with everyone.” Chris smiled. “Plus, I can explain to our parents where you’ve gone. But they were adamant about breakfast tomorrow you know.” I laughed and nodded.
“Me too, I want to have a few more drinks, then I’m ready for bed.” She yawned. “We’ve been so busy I don’t remember what my bed feels like.” She laughed and I noticed Chris looking at her with a strange look in his eyes. I looked at Michael with a cheeky grin and he knew what I was getting at. I think someone was a little smitten.
“Ok, well another time then. Have fun guys!” He smiled and dragged me out, laughing.
We said our goodbyes to everyone, promising to meet the parents for breakfast at the local cafe in the morning. We didn’t bother ordering a taxi, opting instead to walk home as the air was still warm and it wasn’t quite dark yet only being 9pm. I was holding Michael’s hand, staring at my engagement ring having not really been able to see it before due to all the tears. It was definitely a Reve designed ring. It was white gold and up either side were small diamonds that eventually met in the middle. In the middle sat another stone, an opal, surrounded by tiny leaves, making it look like a sunflower. When I turned my hand it changed different colours, like an aurora. Michael saw me admiring it.
“I’ve had that ring made since I was 22. I designed it in college and even if I had never proposed to you, I was going to give it to whoever you married to propose to you.” I looked at him with my mouth wide open.
“You’re kidding?!” I said, looking down at it again. He shook his head and looked up at the stars that were slowly coming into view as the sky darkened into a midnight blue.
“I knew that no matter who I met, they would never hold a candle to you, and I hoped one day you would realise I was the one you were meant to be with, not Chris. I love him dearly, but I just couldn’t see you together. You were meant to be best friends, gossiping and getting drunk together, maybe even working together. However, if you never loved me, I wanted you to have this ring. It was meant to be yours, regardless and it is you through and through.” I leant my head on his arm, and he moved to put his arm around my shoulder, letting me hug against his side as we walked.
“I’m sorry I accused you of not knowing me.” I said. “You know me better than anyone.”
“Well, maybe as well as yourself.” He chuckled. “I’ll show you how well I know you when we get home.” I knew I was turning red.
“Home?”
“Yeah, I want you to move in with me, eventually anyway…” He smiled down at me, and I smiled too. “That way I can keep you from getting into trouble.”
“Trouble?” I scoffed at him. “Oh yeah! Speaking of trouble. You’re in for it you know, thanks for reminding me.” I teased and his eyes darkened with lust. “Unless you want to be the boss tonight.” I joked.
“Stop that or we might not make it home.” I giggled and pretended to zip up my lips. We got to Michael’s, and he handed me a card to enter the building and told me the door code. I smiled and we entered the lift up to his floor. I headed to the door on the left like last time, but Michael grabbed my hand and stopped me. “I want to show you something first.”
He opened the other door with the same card and led me inside. Once inside I was in awe at the large area that had doors to different areas.
“Ive never really used this area and got it as part of the apartment.” There were four doors. One was a gym. One a small pool, one was a pantry, and the other was a walk-in closet. “You’re welcome to fill the pantry and the wardrobe!” He smiled at me, and I must admit I could not contain my excitement. I jumped onto him, and he grabbed me before I made us both topple over. My legs were wrapped around his waist, and I kissed him quickly.
“You sure know how to woo a woman to say you’ve never wanted one before.” He laughed and whispered in my ear.
“Ive always wanted just one, and yeah, I pay attention.” I shivered and he carried me out of the area and into the apartment. As we entered the apartment, he kicked the door closed and kissed me deeply. He kept kissing me as we headed to the bedroom.
