Chapter Three

1006 Words
Easy as cake. No one saw us coming, or leaving.         When I surfaced, Jon did too. Logan handed him the waterproof matches to light the fuze with.         “We need to get as far back as possible.” He said and pulled the fuse to its extent. We were a few hundred yards away. My legs were starting to burn from kicking in the water, holding myself above the surface.         Once the fuze was lit, we would swim back to the boat. Simple. The only fear I had in my heart, was that Jon had doubt in his eyes. That scared me. He was always so confident with his plans. He has never once doubted us as a team. I couldn't help but wonder what was going on with him.            "Here goes nothing.” he mumbled, his voice was completely flat, almost like he expected this to not work. He sighed and lit the fuse. It sparked a few times before actually lighting and traveling towards the ship.            "Lets bounce.” Yuli said and began her way back to the boat.            I nodded and followed her. We hadn’t quite made it back when I heard the first BOOM.  I turned around in the water to watch in awe. I saw the explosion, followed by another, and another. It just kept coming... and yet the ship failed to sink.           “Why isn’t it working?” I turned to Jon. He was never wrong.           He just shook his head and swam to the boat faster. The rest of us followed. The ship signaled off a deafening horn. Then it started moving towards us.           “Shit..” Logan said and pulled himself onto the boat, and turned to pull me on as well. I was the last in the water, so Jon had started driving before I was fully back inside of the boat.           Logan gripped my hand and forearm and pulled me over the edge. He held me tight. We all knew we were f****d. This may be a speedboat, but it would never outrun that massive ship.          The horn blew again. “We need to get to shore. Quickly.” Jon panicked. “Jump, and swim East. Don’t get caught by the net.” He looked at all of us, then waited for us all to jump over before he did.           At first the water was fine, I swam as fast as I could and got pretty close inland, but then the net swept right behind me creating a mini vortex under the water. It sucked me under. I spun around uncontrollably and was dragged farther down into the ocean.          Down to the dark part...           I sucked in water through my nose and down my throat. God damnit, damnit. I had to get out of the dark parts. I felt something brush past my foot. I kicked my legs and pushed my arms up. Just get up there. I could barely see light. It was maybe 50 feet above me. Get there. My lungs ached. I would probably die today. My whole body was screaming at me and I could feel every ounce of oxygen I had leave my lungs.           I swam faster and didn’t dare look below me. I knew something was there. It was chasing me. I could feel it rub my foot every now and then. Almost catching me.           I started swimming at an angle. 10 feet away from the light. So close. I had to get to the beach.           When I finally reached the light, I felt relieved but black specks started forming in my eyes. My oxygen is very much gone. My lungs panicked, my heart raced. Need. Air.            I pushed my legs harder, ignoring my already blurred vision and racing heart. I broke through the surface of the ocean. I made it to shallow waters and forced myself to walk until it was shallow enough for me to collapse onto my hands and knees to throw up the water that I had swallowed down there.           “There she is!” I heard Yuli yell in the distance. Then there were footsteps.           "Where the hell did you go?” Jon asked and grabbed my shoulders.           I leaned back and washed the sand off of my fingers. “The damn net,” I had a shortage of breath, “It sucked me under. To the dark.”           Logan bent down and placed his hand on my back for support, then started checking me for injuries.          “What?” Jon asked.          I flashed my eyes at him, I didn’t feel like repeating myself. Plus, I was mad at him anyway. He sent us on a suicide mission.           "What did you do?” He asked.           "I got the hell out of there.” I stood up and looked at Logan, “I’m fine.” the palm of my hand rested on his chest. "What the hell happened out there Jon?” If anybody was to question his role as leader, or stand up to him. It was definitely me. “Our explosion didn’t even scratch that ship.”           He looked away from me and rubbed his chin, “I don’t know..”          “You don’t know? We could’ve died today. All of us, and you don’t know? It’s your job to know.” I spat at him then walked up the shore, hopefully to get somewhere near our home.           No one else said anything as they followed me.          I walked to the dry parts of the sand, and through the trees. Music rang in my ears. We were close to some sort of village. I made my way towards the sounds of the busy street.
