40 Simultaneously, Foley, Sam and Sarah stopped and crouched behind individual trees. “What was that?” Sarah asked. “Sounded like a gunshot,” Foley said. “Warning us off?” “I doubt it,” Foley said. “They know we’re the police, and they’ll know we’re not about to back off.” “An accidental discharge?” Sam posed. “Maybe, but I don’t think so,” Foley answered. “Let’s proceed with caution.” A few hundred metres further ahead, just before they exited the bush and stepped out into a large reasonably clear area, Foley indicated to Sam and Sarah that they should stop.
