“Have you ever traveled on a train?” Sarah asked Sam.
“No, never,” Sam said.
“Never?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“I’m from Darwin, born and bred. There’s only one train in and out, and I never had any reason to leave until I transferred to Alice Springs.”
“And you flew down here?”
“Yes, and that one time was enough.”
“You don’t like flying?”
“It’s not natural. Tons of metal, traveling at five hundred kilometers an hour, thirty thousand feet up in the air. What if it fell out of the sky?”
“If it’s any consolation, it’s not the fall that will kill you, it’s the sudden stop.” Sarah smiled.
“That’s not funny,” Sam announced.
