The Tail of Two Alphas

Chapter 2

*****UNKNOWN POV*****

As I arrived at the North Star Pack I knew the day was about to be one of the longest yet. Pulling up to their packhouse, I realized that it was similar to my own in size and shape. Stepping out of the car I was greeted by the current alpha and his luna.

"Alpha Ace Dawson of the Blue Star Pack welcome to our home and thank you so much for joining us on this special day", Alpha Roman said extending his hand to shake mine.

"The pleasure is mine, thank you for the invite. Your pack is one of the largest I have ever seen or heard of and I would love nothing more than to speak with you before my departure tomorrow night about a few things", I said shaking hands with Alpha Roman and Luna Summer.

"Of course, but for now let us show you to your rooms while you're here and you can go anywhere and explore anything. Tonight's festivities will begin at five pm just before the sun sets. Dinner at five-thirty, and the alpha ceremony to follow out in the field behind the packhouse. The pack will run to the lake and then walk back in human form.", Luna Summer added gracefully as she walked with us toward the pack house to show us our rooms.

"Forgive me, I have forgotten to introduce my Beta Taylor Raine"

"Welcome Beta, your room will be directly next to Alpha Ace's in case he needs you, and please both of you feel free to ask anything and feel welcome to anything in the kitchen we open our home to you.", Luna added while walking into the front doors of the pack house.

The front entrance was grand with a staircase on each side leading up to the second level and another to the third. I could see others standing around talking and recognized two of them to be Alpha Micheal and Luna May from the Aurora Light Pack. Seeing how it was already four-thirty we went straight up to the third floor and began getting ready for the ceremony.

******NOVA'S POV******

As we hop back in the car and head toward the packhouse I can't help but feel slightly nervous. Monica seems all too happy to party it up with the pack and get her first run-in as a wolf. However, when I think about all the duties I will be taking on after tonight and the words dad told me about some men trying to mate me just to take the pack to have me in a full spiral. Monica is ready to find her mate. As for me, I am just ready to get this night over with.

We pull up to the pack house ready to exit the car and make our entrance. When before we can open the doors Monica stops dead in her tracks. She inhales deeply and sighs out with a smile that looks like she found heaven.

"What is it Monica, what do you smell?" I asked as I grabbed her hand to make sure she was okay.

" I don't know, I smell fresh picked berries and muffins coming out of the hot oven like when they are perfect. I have never smelled something this amazing before," she said as she gripped my hand back.

We exited the car and walked up to the doors. Our parents were waiting for us so they could announce properly the new alpha. Seeing how in exactly 35 minutes I would be given the title alpha, and shortly after I would turn 18 and go for my first run under the moonlight as a wolf.

"You both look stunning ladies," my mom said holding her hands out to grab one of mine and one of Monica's. She always was a radiant Luna. She knew everyone in the pack and always had a way of making them feel like they were the center of attention. Monica broke free and hugged her parents. They walked in before us to let my mother and father take center point and announce the dinner before the new Alpha ceremony was to begin. We made our way to the grand double staircase with the overlook to the main floor and stood until my father finally spoke.

"Thank you all so much for coming. I want to welcome our other packs for joining us tonight for this monumental occasion. Alpha Micheal and Luna May Ackler, from Aurora's Light pack, Alpha James and Luna Amy Holcomb, from the White River pack, and last but not least Alpha Ace Dawson and Beta Taylor Raine, from Blue Star Pack. Knowing each one of you travels even the shortest of distances means more to my luna and me than you could ever know. Please give our guests the most respectful North Star pack.

***ACE'S POV***

Standing here I can't help but hear my wolf scratching to be let free. He is whining and I'm doing my best to focus on Alpha Pierce's speech. I know being here is a must but since when can't I control my damn wolf. He is acting as if he wants to hunt something down and this isn't the time or place for that.

****NOVA'S POV******

We walk towards the stairs and I feel everyone's eyes watching me. We make our way into the dining hall for dinner. As we sit down my father takes the head of the table; my mother to his right and myself to the left. The rest of our guests soon found their seats and the feast began. The first course was a smooth creamy potato soup with hints of garlic, onion, and several types of cheese. The main course was a choice of grilled chicken with a cherry balsamic vinaigrette glaze, sided with honey-roasted carrots, and roasted garlic parmesan baby potatoes. The second choice was a steak cooked to order per the guest's request with a simple butter and onion glaze perfectly drizzled over top. The sides for this choice were lemon garlic shrimp and grilled green beans. As everyone gathered and ate the tables were filled with stories from pack to pack and laughter flowed like it was one big reunion. My uncle and aunt sat next to my mom so they could catch up on things from my mother's original pack. Since the mating between my mother and father, she hasn't had a chance to visit her childhood home. However, I know having them here is like a dream come true for her and me as well. The Blue Star pack Alpha Ace Dawson and his Beta sat next to me. I did my best to try and talk to him, but with every word, I would say he seemed more and more agitated. I remember thinking I'm not even alpha yet and our treaty with their pack is already going to be ruined.

****ACE'S POV*****

My wolf was howling in the back of my head, doing everything he could to make his presence known. I caught a faint whiff of something tropical and thought maybe it could be perfume. I had no idea why my wolf was so adamant about hunting down the source of this smell. The little wolf next to me was trying so hard to make conversation and all I could do is try to keep my wolf at bay. It may have seemed rude but I didn't know what he was exactly wanting to do once he found the reason for the smell now so deeply engraved into my mind.

****NOVA'S POV****

Once everyone finished their main course my father stood to make his final toast as Alpha of the North Star Pack. "Thank you all again for joining us tonight, Dessert will take place after the ceremony and the moonlight run. We all know tonight that the moon is the closest it has been in 50 years and tonight we will see just how amazing our moon goddess truly is.", he motions to my mom and she stands," We welcome you now to join us out in the foyer for the alpha ceremony", she said with a graceful gesture to the doors leading to the front of the house. Everyone stood and made their way to the grand entrance. My mother, father, and I made our way up the stairs to the center of the overlook. Monica and her parents made their way halfway up one side of the staircase and waited for the announcement. The other pack leaders stood at the bottom of the right-side staircase to wait for my descent and congratulate me.

Here it comes, I take a deep breath in and wait for my dad to announce my new role in the pack.

"Without further ado, Luna Summer and I present to you all your new Alpha our beautiful daughter Nova Pierce," he said stepping aside and allowing me to come to the edge of the railing. I looked over my pack and our guests and smiled. I bowed my head only to see each member of our pack bowing and submitting to me. I felt my father's hand glide along my back." This might feel a bit strange are you ready?" he whispered in my ear, and I nodded. He held me up as I knew what was going to happen would take a lot out of me. Within seconds I felt my head splitting open and what felt like a thousand voices all at once say "Alpha Nova". It was the pack mind link. When you become alpha you can communicate with anyone in the pack at any time through the mind link. I felt myself starting to stumble backward when my mother came to my other side and wrapped her arms around me. The smile on her face was nothing short of being a proud Luna and mother. just as quick as the pain and voices in my head appeared they disappeared. I lifted my head to look over all of my new pack and with a smile said, "Thank you so much for joining me on this monumental journey. I would like you all to join us outside in the backyard as we run for the first time with me as alpha. We will shift and then run the lake. Once there, we will all walk back in human form and enjoy the desert in the backyard. Clothes will be waiting by the edge of the lake for those who are not yet comfortable with walking back nude." Everyone cheered and applauded my new role. As I made my descent the surrounding packs shook my hand and congratulated me, some even giving me best wishes in my new role in the pack. The time was now 17:56 and in four short minutes, I was to be 18 and shift for the first time with my pack and run under the closest full moon to earth in 50 years.

****ACE'S POV****

The little wolf looked graceful and radiant in her dress as she made her way down the stairs toward us. She was a vision of beauty and elegance. I turn to my beta and noticed him staring at the she-wolf in the silver dress halfway up the other side of the staircase. I finally got his attention when I moved in front of him and motioned us to follow the newest alpha to the backyard. As we all exited the home you could see the moon was almost to its peak and the light shown danced across the skin of the little wolf. I smelled the infatuating smell again and my wolf was about to burst out when suddenly the smell hit strong this time. Coconut, pineapple, and agave, with warmth like you, were at the beach and flooded my body with waves of pleasure. I knew at the moment my 4 years without a mate were over she was here and when the run commenced I was going to let my wolf find her.

****NOVA'S POV****

Just as we made it outside and everyone got ready to strip and run I felt an overwhelming rush fly through my body. The feeling you get when you feel the wind blowing through your hair. I knew the clock struck 18:00 because at that moment I heard a voice in my head that no one else seemed to hear. " Hello Alpha Nova, My name is Dawn and I am your wolf. I have been waiting a long time to meet you." her voice was like velvet flowing over the skin. Her voice was smooth and soft yet powerful. " Hello, Dawn it is nice to finally meet you are you ready to come out and run?" I asked with an answer already in mind. " Yes, all you have to do is let me take over. Imagine a wolf where you stand and I will do the rest," she replied. I did as she asked and before I knew it the shift was complete. I could feel the earth under my paws. the overwhelming sense to howl but before I could even make a sound a smell encased my body with warmth. The smell of the woods mixed with fire from fresh pine tree wood took over my nose and I had to find out where or whom it was coming from. I howled in excitement and everyone took that as a sign to shift and run. I did my best to stay at the front of the pack for the first half and then slowly let others take the lead to make sure no one was falling behind or having trouble in the back. Just as we were approaching the lake I felt like the smell was getting stronger. The large black wolf with a white patch of fur darted in front of me only to stop and make me come to a halt just before we collided. The wolf looked at me with glowing red eyes and I looked at it." MATE!", Dawn screamed. " This is mate and I must see them, I must know them and I must claim them" She added. " WOAH DAWN! Hold on we don't even know this wolf. We have no idea who they are or if they are a rouge. We need to get to the lake and go from there," I said as the large black wolf circled me. Dawn started walking toward the lake again and the black wolf followed. Upon reaching the lake I howled signaling the run was now over and everyone should make their way back to the packhouse for desserts and fun. "Now think of yourself as a human what you look like from how tall you are down to what color hair and eyes you have, once you do that you will shift back and remember I am always here to protect you, but find our mate!", Dawn said with no end in sight for me to find this mystery wolf. I did as she said and imagined myself as a human and in no time I opened my eyes to find myself standing on two legs and looking around for this black wolf with a white patch.

****ACE'S POV****

As we started the run I did my best to cover every part of the pack to find the smell that consumed my body. I dashed from side to side front to back only to get little hints here and there. She was out here somewhere I just had to find her. I see the lake in the distance when a white wolf starts coming into focus. It was like she was slowing down. Was she hurt, older, and out of breath, or "MATE!!!" Shadow dodged in and halted in front of her. She was large but not as large as I was. White fur, like the first light on a new day just as the sun, rises over the land. But what was this she had a black patch whereas I had a white one, over the left eye? She came to a stop just inches away from us and with the breeze blowing her scent engulfed my nose. Coconuts, Pineapple, and agave. Like my own personal trip to the beach. I circled her and sniffed the air to make sure it was her who smelled so heavenly. She must have been smelling me too because her eyes glowed a beautiful purple as she inhaled. She started walking and I made sure no one else was getting near my mate not now not ever. We reached the lake and she stopped. As she sat there and paused for what seemed like forever she howled signaling the run was now over. Wait only the Alpha will signal that. Was my mate the little wolf who was just named Alpha of the North Star pack? I watched a minute before shifting back to human form. Her body changed and as she was on 2 legs her skin was a mocha color, and her hair jet black hair which was nothing like the wolf she just was, flowed to her back in loose curls. Her eyes were now a beautiful shade of indigo. Her body and curves were a thing of art. She wasn't skinny but also wasn't fat. She had the most perfect little ass. Her boobs are just there enough for my hands to hold and mouth to suck on. I needed her to see me so I started my shift. As soon as I was in human form her eyes went to the size of a doe in headlights she was small maybe only 5'2" to 5'4" compared to my 5'11". She was perfection in the purest form.

I knew from the moment she saw me that she was a virgin. Her face turned as red as my wolf's eyes, and her eyes darted away as though she was not supposed to see what she was. My tan skin comes from a long line of native Americans and I do my best to stay escape due to always being on guard for threats against the pack and if someone decided to challenge me for my rank. "Congratulations little wolf you became alpha and you found your mate. Not many can say they found their mate so quickly after turning of age." I smirked at her, knowing she couldn't look at me right now. "I believe we need to have a talk but first let us find some clothes I think you will be a lot more comfortable talking with me." she nodded still not being able to look directly at me. We walked over to the edge where bags were prepared with sweatpants and t-shirts for everyone. We both picked up a bag and put the clothes on. Finally, she could look at me without being any shade of red. Even the clothes couldn't hide her figure from the way the shirt complimented her curves by hugging them, and the way it squeezed around her breast you could tell they were soft but still firm. The pants hung to her hips but fell a way that showed her ass just enough to make me want to grab it and pull her closer to my body. She was a vision of beauty beyond anything I have ever seen. I couldn't wait to call her mine forever and start my life with her, but first, we needed to figure out how this would all work considering we were alphas of different packs.

****NOVA'S POV****

ACE DAWSON!!! My mystery wolf and mate is Ace Dawson Alpha of the Blue Star pack. I mean don't get me wrong he was a gorgeous man. He was tall, had almost sun-kissed skin, and his body coved in muscles. His abs looked like they were chiseled out of stone. His hazel eyes made me want to melt into his arms and his brownish-blonde hair was begging me to run my fingers through it. But how could this be possible we were both alphas and from different packs. Wait what if this is exactly what dad was trying to warn me about? Was Ace just trying to steal my pack from underneath me? My head started to hurt from all the questions running through it. We looked at each other for a few more minutes without either one of us saying a word. When I went to speak nothing came out, but he suggested, " How about we start walking back to your house and we can either talk along the way or walk in silence?" All I could do was nod my head in agreement. As we started to walk, I felt Dawn start to purr as he let his hand skim across mine. His touch sent sparks throughout my body. I didn’t know what to say so we walked in silence back to my house. Seeing my house in the distance I could faintly make out where my parents were standing along with Monica. OH s**t! How was I going to tell Monica about my newfound mate, I didn’t even know how to completely wrap my head around it. As we kept walking, I knew that we had a lot to discuss. So, I mind linked my parents to have them meet me in the library, my calm room, and to bring Monica and her parents. As I approached the doors, I announced to my pack that the party was still going strong and to enjoy themselves. As I walk towards the library, towards my parents, best friend, and new beta, I find myself thinking. How am I supposed tot ell everyone I have found my mate? Ace is following close behind me with his beta not wanting to let me get to far ahead of him. My mate is an alpha just like me. How is this going to work? What am I going to do?
