“Seems like someone is hungry,” he said.
My face burned even redder as I lowered my head in embarrassment.
I hadn’t even had time to finish breakfast before we left the pack, and now it was already evening. No wonder my stomach was protesting loudly.
The town around us was buzzing with life.
People moved back and forth along the dusty road, their laughter and chatter filling the air. Merchants stood behind wooden stalls calling out to customers while others bargained loudly over prices.
Children ran across the street, chasing one another in playful excitement.
I couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of envy watching them.
They moved around so freely… so happily.
Completely unaware of the dangers that existed beyond their peaceful lives.
